Clearly, the white pieces were trapped in a dead end.
The onlookers, keeping pace with the man's rhythm, were also lost in deep thought.
For a moment, everyone seemed entirely stumped by the board.
Hulda observed the scruffy man and the surrounding crowd before letting her eyes fall on the board.
It really was a dead end...
She frowned, contemplating for a moment. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration hit her. Her breath hitched slightly, and a soft gasp of realization escaped her throat.
The scruffy man, completely absorbed in trying to break the deadlock, was disturbed by the soft sound. He shot a displeased glare toward the source.
Upon seeing Hulda's face, the annoyance in his eyes deepened. He was just about to issue a harsh warning for her to keep quiet when he noticed the girl's eyes seemed fixated on a specific spot on the board.
The man paused, instantly tracing the exact line of her gaze.
Staring at that spot, a sudden wave of clarity washed over him. Thrilled, he slammed the white piece down exactly where she had been looking.
Seeing him make that move, the crowd froze for a second before erupting into a chorus of gasps.
"Brilliant! What a brilliant move!"
"As expected of Master Marr, with that masterful drop, the white pieces are completely revived!"
This wave of awe and praise completely bypassed the scruffy man. Ignoring everyone else, he stared intently at Hulda, his eyes burning. "You... How did you think of that move?!"
Hearing this, the onlookers whipped their heads around to stare at Hulda in unison.
Wait, wasn't that brilliant move Master Marr's idea?
Why was he saying it came from this young woman?
Who was this girl, anyway?
No one had ever seen her before!
