Sylvie looks at Herbert. "Check the transfer records."
She didn't expect a simple allowance issue to escalate into a crime.
But this worked in her favor. Once cleared up, she'd secure her $25,000 monthly allowance. Plus, it cemented her victim status.
The Jewells would feel guilty. Given Mr. Jewell's temperament, he’d treat her even better once the truth came out.
Ignoring Cora's frantic protests, Sylvie handed her phone to Herbert.
"Oh, Herbert, what's the point of looking at the records..." Cora's forehead was beaded with sweat. "Let's not drag Victor into this. I'll just cover the $20,000 difference myself."
Valery narrowed her eyes at her daughter. Cora was acting bizarre.
If there was one thing Valery knew about her daughter, it was that she loved money more than anything else—even her own parents.
Thankfully, the Jewell family had never shortchanged Cora.
But asking Cora to cough up her own cash? That was entirely out of character.
Cora jumped like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "How am I acting weird? I just think Victor has been loyal to Herbert for years. There's no need to ruin their relationship over a little money."
But Herbert was already staring at the transfer history. His brows knitted together. "This isn't my card."
