She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 321

Pointing at Caspian, Julian couldn't help but shudder when he met the man's cold, abyssal gaze. Still, he mustered his courage and demanded, "I can let the kick slide. But he has to compensate me for my medical bills and emotional distress!"

By now, even Desmond couldn't tolerate it anymore. "Julian Thorne, you're being absolutely ridiculous!"

Reprimanded by Desmond, Julian's face darkened. "I'm not being ridiculous! You're a local official; you should be on our side and give us justice!"

Desmond was so furious he couldn't speak for a good moment.

Standing nearby, Zane had heard enough. He glared at the younger man. "Julian, do you have any idea who that man is?! And calling her your wife? Have you no shame!"

Before Julian could answer, Brenda cut in. "Who cares who he is? Isn't she just some outsider sent here to work? She's lucky she gets to marry my son! My son graduated from a top university in a big city; he's the most successful man around here. Do you know how many girls lined up to marry him? I rejected all of them. The only reason I approved of her is because she's from a major city and can actually hold a conversation with my boy."

Zane choked on his own breath, laughing in pure exasperation at the woman's sheer ignorance. "She's here for work, but do you think all jobs are the same?"

"What's the difference?" Brenda argued righteously. "Her job isn't any different from those construction workers. She just lifts things and sets up equipment all day. We don't mind that she's uneducated and lacks a real degree. As long as she takes good care of my son and me after they're married, gives us a grandchild, and keeps her distance from other men, that's fine by us."

Listening to Brenda's delusional rant, Desmond, Zane, and the rest of the local staff felt their blood pressure spike.

Abby and Dr. Lynch were equally speechless. Just because they spent their days hauling equipment to install cell towers, these locals actually thought they were manual laborers?
