She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 322

Desmond's words wiped the arrogant look right off Julian's face.

He had genuinely believed the woman was just a city worker sent to help out with some manual labor, assuming she came from an ordinary background. Why else would she be doing heavy lifting in the middle of nowhere?

He never expected her social standing to be so high.

Even Desmond, the local official, respectfully addressed her as Director Atherton.

Though Brenda had no idea what a "Director" was or how high the rank went, Desmond's panicked reaction made it obvious that the girl was important.

Realizing this, Brenda instantly stopped her crying and making a scene.

"Well then, Officer... does a Director make a lot of money every month?"

Desmond furrowed his brows deeply. "Why are you asking that?"

"She's about to be my daughter-in-law. Her money is our family's money!" Brenda's eyes sparkled with sheer greed at the thought.

Desmond looked ready to spontaneously combust. "Did you hear a single word I just said?! She is not your daughter-in-law!"

Truthfully, Desmond had wanted to protect the Thorne family from severe repercussions, but their stubborn ignorance was pushing him to the edge. He looked at Julian, hoping the educated young man would finally listen to reason.

Instead, Julian stared at Hulda with burning intensity. "I originally didn't want you showing your face in public for work, but since you're highly capable, I suppose you can keep your job. But remember, you must maintain a strict distance from other men. Also, after we're married, you need to move my mother and me to your city, and pool your salary and bonuses into a joint account under my control."

"Exactly!" Brenda chimed in, already daydreaming about moving to the big city and living a life of leisure.

Hulda was speechless.

Abby and the rest of the institute's team were equally stunned.

It turns out, when people are truly dumbfounded, they actually do laugh.

Caspian's eyes darkened, fixing Julian with a dangerously lethal glare.

Dylan felt a massive headache coming on.

Even his boss didn't dare speak to Ms. Atherton like that.
