She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 113

From six hundred thousand straight to one point eight million.

The price had tripled.

It was just a bracelet. Were they insane?

But the voice didn't stop, entirely prepared to fight the man behind him to the bitter end.

"Two and a half million."

Low gasps rippled through the seats, and the surrounding murmurs grew louder.

"Do they have some kind of personal grudge?"

"That makes no sense. The Hayes Group and Ryland Group don't even have any business overlaps."

"Even if they did, there's no need to go this hard. It's not like the bracelet is anything spectacular."

"Caden."

Helga, sitting next to him, was getting antsy. Sure, this amount of money meant nothing to Caden.

But... she genuinely felt it was completely unnecessary.

"Caden, that's enough. Stop bidding."

Caden thumbed the paddle in his hand. He tilted his head slightly, catching the figure behind him in his peripheral vision.

Listening to their increasingly absurd bids, Shera felt her temples throbbing.

She clamped her hand down hard on Rhys's wrist, her tone turning stern. "Enough."

"Shera."

She shook her head, her expression dead serious. "Don't bid anymore. It's not worth it."

She shot a glance at the man sitting near the front. "If he wants it, let him have it. Security is something you give yourself. I don't need a lucky charm to protect me."

Two and a half million.

Whoever bought that was an absolute fool.

On stage, the auctioneer looked toward Rhys. "Bidder number five, two point five million. Do I have any higher bids?"

Rhys turned his head, looking straight into Shera's eyes before giving a slow nod. "Alright. I'll listen to you."

"Two point five million going once."

"Two point five million going twice."

"Two point five million going three times."

The gavel slammed down. "Sold! Congratulations to the gentleman in the front."

As applause erupted, Caden's gaze cut through the crowd and landed squarely on Shera.

From start to finish, she hadn't given him a second glance.

His brow furrowed deeply. "If you like it, take it."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Helga stood frozen in place, his words echoing in her mind.

She opened the velvet box and stared at the bracelet inside, picking it up delicately.

The jadeite glowed with a soft, radiant luminescence under the lights, stunningly beautiful.

Without hesitating, she slipped the bracelet onto her wrist.

Looking at his retreating back, she couldn't suppress the smile creeping onto her lips.

This was the first time in years he had actually given her a gift.

The Restaurant—

"How was your chat with Felipa earlier?"

Shera held her knife and fork, carefully slicing the steak on her plate.

Hearing Rhys's question, she looked up. "It was great. We exchanged contact info. She said she'll be staying in Aurelia for a while."
