She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 114

"Since she's sticking around, you should use the opportunity to learn from her and ask questions. Once you get familiar with her, it'll be easier to set up more meetings."

Shera popped a piece of meat into her mouth and nodded.

"That's exactly what she said. She told me to visit her often."

Rhys raised his glass. "Well then, cheers to successfully meeting your idol in person."

Shera laughed at his wording. "Look at you using internet slang."

"I'm not a dinosaur, you know."

Their glasses clinked together, ringing out with a crisp chime.

Up on the restaurant's small mezzanine balcony, a figure dressed in a server's uniform leaned against the railing, quietly watching the two of them smiling at each other from across the table.

"How sweet."

She pulled out her phone, snapped a photo of them, and hit send.

As they continued chatting, Rhys's phone lit up on the table.

He opened it. It was a photo.

The smile on his lips slowly vanished as he turned his body to scan the direction the picture was taken from.

Up on the balcony, Vivienne leaned against the railing, waving at him with a wide grin.

"What's wrong?" Shera asked, noticing him searching for something.

Rhys paused briefly before his expression returned to normal. "Nothing. Just a business partner who texted me saying they saw me."

Shera looked up and glanced at his phone.

"Go ahead if you need to. I'm pretty much done eating anyway. I'll just head up to the lounge by myself."

"Finish your food. I'll walk you up after."

Shera chewed thoughtfully. "I was planning on walking around a bit to get some fresh air. You go do your thing."

Hearing this, Rhys nodded but made sure to add, "I'll text you when I'm done. Be careful walking around by yourself. Tell me if anything happens, and stay safe."

Seeing him rattle off a list of instructions, she laughed helplessly. "I'm not a kid, you know. Stop nagging."

"Alright."

Rhys stood up, grabbed his phone, and turned to look at the balcony. In that split second, his face darkened like a thundercloud.

Helga went dead silent for a second before taking a deep breath.

"Alright. I understand."

She was about to hang up when her father spoke again.

"You finally have an opportunity to be alone with him. Take him down as quickly as possible. All those years of childhood loyalty, yet it still couldn't beat out a wife he has no feelings for."

"What use are you?"

The fingers gripping her phone tightened. She lowered her eyes and softened her voice.

"I understand."

*Beep, beep—*

The call disconnected.

Staring at the call log on her screen, Helga pressed her lips together.

"Who were you on the phone with?"

The voice suddenly appearing behind her gave Helga a massive fright, and she nearly dropped her phone on the floor.
