She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 120

He sat on the edge of the sofa, grabbing a small throw blanket and draping it over her legs.

"Thank you."

Rhys looked up and finally noticed that her lips were slightly swollen, her lipstick entirely smudged away.

He spoke up. "Did you... run into Caden?"

Hearing that, Shera reflexively reached up to touch her lips.

Seeing the gesture, Rhys knew his guess was right.

"Yeah. Helga came looking for me earlier, and then he showed up too."

"Helga? Why was she looking for you? Did they give you a hard time?"

Shera shook her head. "No. She was just trying to convince me to divorce Caden."

"I see."

Rhys responded lightly, his tone completely unreadable.

He glanced at his watch. It was getting late.

"Do you need help getting ready for bed? Should I call for a female staff member?"

"No need. It doesn't really hurt anymore. You should go get some rest."

Seeing that she was fine, Rhys didn't push it. He placed the slippers by her feet.

"Alright. I'm right next door. Text me if you need anything."

"Okay," Shera nodded.

He gently closed the door behind him, stepping out into the silent hallway.

He realized he couldn't let Caden keep harassing her like this.

This divorce absolutely had to happen.

Solomon leaned against the table, looking worriedly at the man sitting by the window.

It had been half an hour. Ever since Caden got back, he had completely shut down. He wasn't acknowledging anyone or saying a single word.

Solomon had tried every trick in the book and brought up a dozen different topics, but Caden completely ignored him.

"Come on, man. There's no need to be like this. So what if she hit you? Getting slapped by your wife isn't that big of a deal, right?"

He desperately tried to comfort him.

"She hit you, but I bet it hurt her too. If her heart didn't hurt, her hand definitely did."

Stabbing into his heart over and over again.

He had never seen Shera look like that, and he had certainly never heard her say such venomous things.

She had always been so gentle. Even when pushed to her limits, she had never lashed out so explosively.

But today...

She called him disgusting. She called him trash. She said she wished she never had to see him again for the rest of her life.

Those eyes, which used to look at him with nothing but adoration, now held an endless, bottomless hatred.

*I want absolutely nothing to do with you ever again.*

She was infinitely more ruthless than he could ever be.

A heavy, suffocating sorrow settled over his brow. His chest felt as if it were being torn open, the agony making it almost impossible to breathe.

The sharp burn on his fingertips made him flinch violently, and he dropped the cigarette.

He stared blankly at the glowing ember on the floor. Perhaps the smoke had stung his eyes, because they were suddenly wet.

As if unable to believe it, he slowly raised his hand and touched his cheek.

A single teardrop rested on his fingertip.
