She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 119

Vivienne opened the door, but the hallway was completely empty.

"No one's here."

Rhys didn't say anything further and stepped out of the room.

"Alright, we've discussed what needed to be discussed. Do as you wish."

Vivienne looked as though she wanted to say more, but seeing him already walking away, she simply pouted reluctantly.

In the adjacent stairwell, Shera leaned against the wall, her heart racing.

Perhaps due to the inherent guilt of eavesdropping, she had decisively chosen to bolt and hide.

She waited until there were no more sounds coming from the cabin before slowly stepping out.

The next second, her phone buzzed. It was a text from Rhys.

[I'm done. Where are you?]

To put some distance between herself and the cabin, Shera quickly shuffled further down the corridor.

She glanced around while typing out a reply, not paying attention to where she was going.

As she rounded the corner, she crashed headfirst into a solid chest. Her foot twisted sharply, and she nearly hit the deck.

Thankfully, Rhys had quick reflexes. He wrapped his arm tightly around her waist, keeping her from taking a completely embarrassing tumble.

"Careful."

The man's breath fanned across her face, making Shera acutely aware of exactly how close they were.

She was practically plastered to his chest.

She tried to push away, but the sharp spike of pain from her ankle sent her stumbling right back into him.

"Did you twist your ankle?"

Shera frowned and gave a hesitant nod.

"I'll take you back to the guest room."

As soon as the words left his mouth, the floor vanished from beneath her. He scooped her up effortlessly into a bridal carry. The sudden weightlessness made her wrap her arms instinctively around his neck.

"Rhys."

There were still people in the hallway. Being carried like this in front of everyone made her incredibly self-conscious.

She lowered her voice. "You should put me down. I can walk."

"It's fine. No one's looking."

Rhys carried her steadily down the corridor. As they passed a couple standing by a doorway, she instinctively turned her face away.

Her ankle was already starting to swell.

"Your heels were too high. I'll have someone bring you a pair of flats later."

He twisted the cap off the oil, poured some into his palm, and rubbed his hands together to warm it before pressing his palm against her ankle.

The sudden contact sent a sharp jolt of pain up her leg. Shera sucked in a sharp breath.

Rhys looked up at her. "Does it hurt?"

She hunched her shoulders and gave a tiny nod.

Rhys eased up on the pressure, massaging the joint gently. His voice was warm and soothing.

"Just bear with it for a moment. It'll feel better soon."

"Mhm."

His technique was incredibly gentle. A comforting warmth spread through her ankle, dissolving most of the sharp pain.

After a quick check, he confirmed it was just a standard sprain and finally relaxed.

Once the medicine was applied, he carefully placed her foot on the sofa and called downstairs to have a pair of flats sent up.

"You need to keep applying this for the next two days. It might bruise tomorrow, but it's nothing serious. You'll be fine in a few days."
