She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 137

With only two days left until the finals, all competing designers had submitted their final presentation portfolios to the committee, which had officially archived the files.

When news of the malicious hit-and-run reached the committee, a staff member immediately called Shera to verify the details.

Shera made it absolutely clear that she still intended to participate in the finals.

The representative promised to escalate the issue to the board and figure out an appropriate accommodation.

With that reassurance, she finally allowed herself to relax a little.

Shera leaned back against the hospital bed pillows, staring peacefully out the window at the birds hopping along the branches.

Chirping happily, completely free.

Earlier that morning, officers from the precinct had stopped by to officially brief her on the investigation and ask a few follow-up questions.

They assured her that a thorough investigation was underway and the perpetrator would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

They promised to notify her immediately of any new developments.

Rhys had wanted the Ryland Group's entire legal department to take over, but Shera felt that was making too big of a deal out of it. Instead, she had Xenia bring in their trusted lawyer friend, Mr. Coleman, to handle the case.

"Baby, look who it is."

Xenia's voice floated in from the doorway. Shera turned her head, and a tall figure in a crisp white coat stepped into view.

Her eyebrows shot up, a hint of surprise in her voice. "Dr. Pembroke?"

Pearce Pembroke stood behind Xenia, looking incredibly professional in his pristine coat.

Shera spoke first. "What are you doing here? I thought you said you were based at the university hospital?"

Pearce offered a polite nod, explaining with his usual gentle demeanor, "Trinity Hospital is one of our affiliated teaching bases. I bring the residents here every week for rounds. I just ran into Ms. Denton in the hallway and heard about the accident."

He looked at the pale, bedridden woman, his eyes brimming with obvious concern.

Shera offered a small smile, trying to lighten the heavy mood. "That's quite a coincidence. Since you're here, I guess I've got a friend on the inside."

"I never should have taken her on as an apprentice! How did that girl turn out to be such a monster?"

At that, she shot a lethal glare at Calvin. "Honestly, this is entirely your fault! If it wasn't for your connections with her family, I never would have let that snake into my studio!"

Calvin looked utterly innocent. "She was just a kid back then! How was I supposed to know she was rotten to the core?"

Listening to the older couple bicker back and forth actually filled Shera's heart with a profound warmth.

She vaguely remembered that her own parents used to be exactly like this.

Her mother would complain, and her father would stand there listening, occasionally tossing back a teasing remark until they both burst out laughing.

So happy. So warm.

Pearce, standing at the foot of the bed, watched the chaotic scene unfold in the room, a gentle smile lifting his lips.

Then, his gaze drifted back to Shera, harboring a deep, unspoken tenderness.
