She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 152

Knowing her father, he would never partner with Marcus purely out of goodwill.

He was likely planning to use Marcus to infiltrate the Hayes family, and once he got what he wanted, he would ruthlessly kick him to the curb.

But... what about Caden?

Driven by some inexplicable urge, Helga crept up to the second floor.

She kept her footsteps feather-light, pressing her ear against the heavy door to see if she could catch anything from inside.

"I went to see that Chinese-American investor, Gavin Grant."

"And what did he say?"

"That brat Caden severely offended him last time. Now, the second he hears the name 'Hayes,' he shakes his head."

"Businessmen are all about profit. If you feed him a big enough slice of the pie, why wouldn't he cooperate?"

The heavy door muffled their voices, making it hard to hear the exact details.

Then, another voice filtered through.

"Doesn't the old man still have a trump card up his sleeve? If we can get our hands on that, I refuse to believe we can't drag them down."

"Besides, we're not the only ones who want to see Caden Hayes removed from power."

Their voices grew fainter, and despite the light sweat breaking out on her forehead, Helga couldn't make out the rest.

Forget it. If she got caught, it would be bad.

She let out a soft sigh and slowly backed away.

The moment she turned around, she walked straight into a towering figure.

She clamped a hand over her mouth just in time to stifle a gasp.

"What exactly are you doing, Ms. Sutton?"

The man narrowed his eyes, studying her with a probing gaze.

"Were you eavesdropping on Mr. Sutton's conversation?"

A flash of panic crossed Helga's eyes. She panted slightly, shrinking back.

"F... Finnian."

She swallowed hard, her eyes darting around the hallway.

"I didn't mean to. Could you please not tell my father about this?"

The man remained entirely unmoved. She blinked rapidly, forcing a glossy sheen of tears into her eyes.
