She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 153

By the time Helga reached the hospital room, Rhys was in the middle of updating Shera on the latest developments of her case.

Still shaken by her near-miss at home, Helga lingered outside the door to listen.

"Rosalie Kerr is in custody, and the case file has been handed over to the prosecutor's office. If there are no hiccups, we'll be going to trial soon."

"What about Rosalie's side? Have they made any moves?"

The case was moving remarkably fast, and Shera couldn't help but feel something was off.

Logically, Rosalie had powerful connections backing her. It made absolutely no sense for her camp to remain this quiet after such a massive incident.

She wasn't even putting up a fight, which was entirely out of character.

Mr. Coleman had mentioned that Rosalie had completely surrendered to her circumstances since the accident.

She hadn't even hired a lawyer to try and negotiate a reduced sentence.

Survival was basic human instinct. Even with ironclad evidence sealing her fate in prison, the very fact that she had fled the scene proved she was terrified of the consequences.

Shera felt a nagging sense of unease. She suspected Rosalie had an ace up her sleeve, which explained her lack of fear.

Rhys considered this. "None. She's been extremely cooperative from the start. You're right—it's almost strangely cooperative."

He looked at her, his expression turning serious. "Xenia mentioned that Caden sent people looking for her right after the crash. When they brought her to the station, the first person she saw was him."

"Are you implying Caden told her something?"

"I don't know." Shera shook her head.

She had wondered the same thing, but she couldn't find a logical motive.

After all, he didn't even know Rosalie. Why would he intervene?

"But I just can't shake the feeling that this isn't as simple as it looks."

Rhys watched her for a moment, his gaze shifting slightly before he patted her hand.

"If your gut is telling you something is wrong, I'll dig deeper."

"I'll start with their first meeting at the station."

He adjusted his glasses, offering a comforting smile. "Don't worry about this right now. Your only job is to rest and recover as quickly as possible."

"Okay."
