"Get married, have a child, and the shares in my hands will be yours. By then, you will be the absolute heir of the Sinclair family."
The absolute heir of the Sinclair family.
Controlling the Sinclair family was equivalent to owning half the coastal metropolis.
As long as he married a woman and had a child, everything—the connections, the resources, the power—would be his.
It was a deeply tempting offer, one that absolutely no one could refuse.
The crowd of relatives outside fought tooth and nail to prove their capabilities, yet all he had to do was get married and produce an heir.
Was this the privilege of being the biological son?
Rhys scoffed and asked, "Trading a marriage and a child for your vast empire?"
"Yes."
Rhys smiled, stood up, and buttoned his jacket as he walked toward the door.
When his hand touched the doorknob, he glanced back, his tone incredibly light. "The things you've pursued your whole life and take so much pride in are nothing but garbage in my eyes. Did you really think I'd care?"
The door shut, the metallic click echoing in the quiet room.
The man on the bed continued to stare at the ceiling, the corner of his mouth turning up slightly, an undeniable certainty in his eyes.
——
Shera was meeting a client for a meal. Just as she sat down, she saw a few girls walk through the door.
They were from the president's office at Hayes Group.
Because she used to visit the company often to drop things off for Caden Hayes, they were mostly familiar faces.
Seeing them approach, Shera slightly turned her head as the group settled into the booth next to hers.
"What do you think is going on in Ms. Sutton's head? It was one thing for her to visit the office all the time, but now she's been placed directly in the president's office."
Shera's finger paused on her phone screen.
"Right? I think Mrs. Hayes is way better than that Ms. Sutton in both elegance and looks. Ms. Sutton just looks like a kid playing dress-up."
Stirring her coffee, Shera couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle. She hadn't expected anyone to actually speak up for her.
She wasn't entirely surprised that Helga had made it into the company.
Caden was a man who strictly separated his personal and professional life and was exceptionally demanding at work. He loathed nepotism. Normally, even if a close friend tried to pull strings to get someone hired, he would ruthlessly reject them.
Given how close Helga had been getting to Rowena lately, it was highly likely his aunt had forced her way into arranging the position.
Shera guessed it had everything to do with their encounter at the grocery store a few days ago. Rowena thought Shera was uncultured and wanted Helga to join the Hayes family instead.
Shera nodded inwardly, highly supportive of Rowena's strategic decision.
By all means, let them nurture their feelings. That way, getting the divorce finalized next month would go flawlessly.
Good for him, good for her, good for everybody.
