He reached out and knocked on the door, and Caden instantly returned to his normal demeanor.
Aiken walked in and placed a file in front of him. Caden flipped through it, then signed his name smoothly at the bottom of the last page.
Aiken took the file back, his steps faltering as he headed for the door. He eventually turned around.
"Mr. Hayes, actually... waiting around like this won't change her mind."
Just as he expected, Caden's sharp glare pierced right through him the next second. Aiken shrank his neck and hurried out of the office.
He had overstepped.

Right after getting off work, Shera received an "SOS call" from Xenia Denton.
From the moment Xenia returned from abroad, her grandpa had been relentlessly setting her up on blind dates.
In just one week, she had already met with six different men.
A lawyer, a college professor, a firefighter, a prosecutor...
All sorts of professions, all sorts of types, and even all sorts of ages, yet she hadn't clicked with a single one.
Whenever this happened, Shera inevitably had to come up with bizarre excuses to bail her out.
As much as she hated these setups, Xenia didn't dare refuse; after all, her grandpa was already in his eighties.
The moment she tried to say no, he would start lamenting, "Your grandpa is old and useless now. My biggest wish before I die is to see you settle down."
Tears and a runny nose always followed, leaving her no choice but to show up.
"What profession is it this time?"
Xenia groaned, "This time it's a doctor."
"What's wrong with a doctor?"
Xenia sounded like she was about to cry. "Just look at the guys I've dated in the past! You know they aren't my type at all. Oh my god, please come save me. The guy is already here."
"What excuse should we use this time? A gas leak?"
Xenia took a deep breath. "For this one, I think you're going to have to show up in person. Grandpa heard about all those ridiculous excuses."
"Show up how?"
"That's him."
She pointed toward a table by the window. Shera followed her gaze and saw a figure sitting behind the glass, looking down at his watch.
"He's pretty handsome, isn't he?"
Xenia shook her head. "No!"
"He's already been waiting for half an hour. Go on, just stay long enough to be polite and then leave. I'll handle the rejection afterward."
Waiting for half an hour without a hint of impatience—this guy definitely had some manners.
Shera sighed, braced herself, and pushed open the restaurant door.
"Hello, are you Mr. Pearce Pembroke?"
The man looked up. The moment his eyes met Shera's, a bright spark flashed in them, and he quickly stood up.
"Hello, you must be Ms. Xenia Denton?"
Shera raised an eyebrow slightly and gave a hesitant nod. "Yes."
