She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 86

"Please, take a seat, Ms. Denton."

Shera set her bag down, looking genuinely apologetic. "I'm so sorry, traffic was terrible on the way here, which is why I'm late."

Pearce smiled warmly. "It's completely fine. I just arrived myself."

Xenia sat on a bench outside, peering through the glass. Seeing the two of them chatting nicely, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.

She sent Shera a text: [You don't need to stay long, twenty minutes is enough.]

Shera replied with an emoji.

Feeling reassured, Xenia walked into the convenience store next door, grabbed a bottle of yogurt, and leisurely started drinking it.

About twenty minutes later, just as Xenia was getting ready to text Shera that she could make her exit, she spotted a figure stepping out of a car parked by the curb.

*It can't be this unlucky, right?*

Watching the direction the man was walking, she cursed under her breath.

Shera was sitting right by the window. Unless the man was blind, he would spot her immediately.

Gritting her teeth, she dashed out of the convenience store.

"Well, if it isn't Mr. Hayes. What a coincidence running into you here."

She completely blocked Caden's path, offering a fake smile.

Caden stopped and looked at the person in front of him, drawing a complete blank on who she was.

He was about to step past her when Xenia blocked him again.

"You don't remember? Before you and Shera got married, we all had dinner together."

She prompted, "Me, Xenia, Shera's best friend."

Caden looked at her again and recalled that there was indeed such a person—Shera's friend who went to school abroad.

He replied politely, "Hello, Ms. Denton."

Noticing she had no intention of moving, he asked, "Is there something I can help you with?"

Xenia gave a tight, awkward laugh. "Oh, nothing. Just saw you and thought I'd say hi."

Caden nodded. "Right."

"Um... Shera mentions you all the time." While frantically texting Shera under the radar, Xenia awkwardly tried to keep the conversation going.

Caden lifted his eyes and looked around. Through the clear glass of the restaurant across the street, he saw Shera.

And... the man sitting across from her.

If Xenia hadn't acted so suspiciously, he wouldn't have thought much of it. But her blatant attempt to cover it up meant there was definitely something going on.

Rhys Jewell, the model at the bar, and now this man.

Three times.

He had caught his wife with another man three separate times, and it was a different guy every single time.

*Shera, very well played.*

Seeing Caden's expression darken dangerously, Xenia panicked and tried to explain.

"I begged Shera to cover a blind date for me! It has nothing to do with her!"

"A blind date?"

Xenia tried desperately to explain, but the man had only caught the keyword.

Caden bypassed Xenia and strode directly toward the restaurant.
