She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 90

Seeing Caden today inevitably reminded her of a dinner they had three years ago.

"Shera, do you remember that time we had dinner with Caden right after I got back?"

"Yeah, I remember you were in the middle of a messy breakup with that cheating ex-boyfriend of yours."

Xenia frowned, the memory of her ex making her skin crawl.

Realizing she'd gotten off track, Xenia quickly circled back. "When Caden went out to take a call, I actually overheard his conversation."

Shera looked up. "What?"

Back then, they had barely been married for three months. Since it was Xenia's grandpa's birthday and she had just returned from abroad, Shera had invited her to dinner, and Caden had tagged along.

He had been just as polite, formal, and distant then as he was today. But Xenia had thought that was perfectly normal. For the head of a major family to even show up was an honor in itself.

During the dinner, Xenia and Shera had done most of the talking. Whenever Caden was brought into the conversation, he simply offered a mild nod.

Later, he stepped out to take a call. At the exact same time, a delivery driver Xenia had ordered from arrived at the front door, so she went down to grab it.

On her way back up, she heard Caden's voice echoing in the stairwell. Because the topic involved Shera, her curiosity got the better of her, and she paused to eavesdrop.

The hallway was dead silent, making the man's voice crystal clear.

"It was a joke, why take it seriously?"

It sounded like a woman on the other end. She could faintly hear short, muffled sobs.

"There is no 'why.' I chose her for her, and it has absolutely nothing to do with her background or family."

"She is my wife. Having known me for so many years, you should know that I never take back my words."

Whatever the other person said caused Caden's tone to instantly freeze over. "Do you have any idea what you're saying? If you dare touch her, don't blame me for ignoring all our years of history."

Which of his words were true and which were lies? Who could really tell? She had never been able to see through him.

Besides, when it came to the medical resources, the fact remained that he had chosen Helga over her.

Compared to a few vague sentences from a phone call where the other person's identity wasn't even confirmed, she preferred to trust what she had experienced firsthand.

Even if he and Helga were completely innocent, what did it matter?

They hadn't reached this point solely because of Helga.

Her father's situation was simply the catalyst that pushed her to ask for the divorce.

Shera curled her fingers inward. She reached over and rolled down the car window. The wind rushed in, blowing away any lingering doubts, making the line she had drawn in her heart ever clearer.

Forgiving easily was a betrayal of her past self.
