She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 93

"That logic is completely sound. You didn't knowingly do something awful. Anyone would prioritize the critical patient first."

"But what was the outcome?"

Solomon leaned closer, studying him. "The outcome was you never expected Shera's father to take a sudden turn for the worse. And you were not only thousands of miles away, but you were also ignoring her calls. Tell me, what were you thinking?"

Caden lowered his eyes and moved the fist resting against his mouth. He explained.

"Because the overseas project was facing issues at the time, and Helga was having daily breakdowns. So I thought Shera was just being unreasonable."

"You were overwhelmed with drama, surrounded by negative energy, and subconsciously got annoyed with Shera, which led to the silent treatment?"

He thought for a moment, then nodded.

That was probably it.

Solomon crossed one leg over the other, stroking his chin.

Even though he felt his friend was probably a lost cause, he still desperately brainstormed a solution.

"Is it possible there's something fishy going on here?"

Seeing Caden's head bowed, Solomon continued, "How could someone in stable condition suddenly become critical, or even die?"

"Could someone have tampered with things? Or was Shera's dad always in bad shape and someone lied about it?"

Caden looked up, his expression darkening as he recalled what Shera had said that day.

'But my father was in critical condition too.'

So her father's situation back then hadn't been what he was led to believe.

Seeing his serious expression, Solomon instantly knew he had guessed right.

"So what's the motive for doing that? Compared to actually wanting her dad dead, driving a wedge between you two seems much more likely."

"Someone wants you divorced. Who benefits the most from that?"

It sounded like a question, but phrase by phrase, it zeroed in on a specific person.

Caden twisted the ring on his left ring finger, staying quiet.

She was just wondering who sent it when a message from Rhys Jewell popped up.

Rhys Jewell: [Did you get the package?]

Shera: [The invitation?]

Rhys Jewell: [I was wondering if I could have the honor of inviting you as my plus-one for this gala.]

She stared at the message, thinking it over carefully.

She debated whether she should keep hanging out with Rhys like this. Since a romantic relationship was off the table, it might be better to clear the air sooner rather than later.

Shera: [You don't have to do that. You can ask one of your other friends.]

The reply came quickly, as if he was trying to clarify his intentions and ease her mind.

[It's just as a plus-one, don't feel pressured. There might be some business discussions at the event, so I need someone to accompany me.]

[Plus, Felipa will be at this charity gala too.]
