Rhys knew exactly how to play his cards.
[If you're feeling pressured, you can invite Xenia to come along.]
Since he had phrased it so casually, acting coy would just make her seem overly dramatic.
She hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed.
After ending the chat, she dove back into work.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, that dormant 'fan' of hers sent her a text message.
[Ms. Jewell, see you in a couple of days.]
She didn't know exactly what this person meant, but out of politeness, Shera gave a brief reply.
——
Port City Estate—
Rhys shoved his phone into his pocket and turned to see Vivienne Sinclair leaning against the doorframe.
The woman was staring at him with a smirk. Judging by her expression, she had watched the entire exchange.
He had no intention of entertaining her and turned to head downstairs.
The moment they brushed past each other, she spoke. "It seems this Ms. Jewell is quite important to you. I've never seen such tenderness from you before."
He looked at her, his eyelashes casting dark shadows. "What are you trying to say?"
Vivienne chuckled. "I'm just observing. No need to be so defensive."
She glanced out the window. "If those 'wild dogs' find out about her existence, what do you think they'll do?"
Rhys curled his lips into a smile. He slowly raised his hand, grazing her cheek before moving his fingers to her neck.
Then, he clamped down abruptly.
A sharp glint flashed behind his gold-rimmed glasses as he spoke slowly. "They won't find out."
Those people would never know about his life in Aurelia.
He watched the woman's face start to change color from the lack of oxygen and lowered his voice. "As for you... whether you live or die is entirely up to you."
The air in Vivienne's lungs was nearly depleted, the veins on her temples bulging prominently, yet her expression remained unfazed.
Shera.
Sleeping with her but calling out another woman's name?
She sent people to investigate and found that woman—Shera, the daughter of the family in Aurelia that adopted him.
They were both 'sisters' to him, so why couldn't it be her?
She knew exactly why he slept with her. He wanted to rise to power, to fight, to rival the rest of the family.
Or maybe... he wanted to find a way back to see her.
He knew how she felt about him, so he used her as a stepping stone.
Even knowing his true motives, she had been a willing participant.
Even if she was just a tool for him, it was better than being useless to him.
Rhys looked at her face, reaching out to wipe a tear from the corner of her eye. His voice was steady and even.
"Instead of randomly biting people like a rabid dog, you should figure out how to get the old man to cancel the arranged marriage."
