She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 95

When Caden walked out of the conference room, Aiken was waiting by his office door.

He handed his folder to a secretary, strolled over, and gestured toward his office.

Aiken understood, pushing the door open for him, waiting for him to enter, and then closing it behind them.

"What did you find?"

He took off his suit jacket, undid his cuffs, and sank into the couch.

Aiken placed a file in front of him.

"I checked the records at the hospital. Mr. Jewell's attending doctor submitted an urgent surgery recommendation back in March. Specifically, March 12th."

He leaned over and flipped the file to a specific page.

"This report was archived in the system on March 15th. There's a gap of three days."

Caden stared at the text in the file, his tone heavy. "Why?"

"The person handling it is named Jared Sanford. He's an administrator in the medical records department. On March 13th and 14th, he took two days off, citing a family emergency."

"The system logs show the report was generated on March 12th. According to protocol, it should have been archived the same day. But Jared didn't process it. I suspect someone gave him orders."

He slid a screenshot of a call log over to Caden.

"This number belongs to a public payphone."

"I went to the hospital to see him today. He claimed someone calling themselves a family member asked him to take a picture of Mr. Jewell's test results and send it over. The person said they were sorting out the paperwork on their end and told him to hold off on uploading it. They even gave him five thousand dollars."

"He took time off the next day, thinking it was handled. He didn't expect the attending doctor to follow up with another report when he got back."

Aiken looked up, carefully observing Caden's expression. "But by then it was too late. Mr. Jewell's condition deteriorated rapidly during those two days."

Caden's eyes grew dark as he stared at the pages in front of him.

Later, Shera somehow found out he had sent the professor abroad. She was extremely emotional and kept questioning him.

He thought she was just being jealous, and given everything else going on, he hadn't replied to her.

"Who made that call?"

"I checked the surveillance footage," Aiken replied. "But because the neighborhood is run down and the cameras are old, I could only catch a blurry side profile. The person didn't show up on any street cameras at the intersections."

"So my guess is this person lives somewhere in that neighborhood."

Caden looked at the blurry figure in the surveillance screenshot. "Narrow it down. Find them."

He paused, then added, "Start with Helga's social circle."

Aiken nodded.

"By the way, Mr. Hayes... regarding her father's passing, I called you when I found out. Just to be safe, I also texted you the details afterward."
