She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 97

As soon as Rhys returned to Aurelia, he went to see Shera.

Shera kept her head down as she ate, then suddenly remembered something and asked, "You rushed back to Port City so urgently a while ago. Did something happen?"

He lowered his head to put some food in her bowl, his voice gentle. "It was nothing. The old man wasn't feeling well, so I stayed a few days to keep him company."

She looked up. "Is he alright now? What did the doctor say?"

"He's fine. Just minor issues."

Hearing that it wasn't serious put her at ease. "That's good. You can't delay when elderly people get sick. Early detection and treatment are crucial."

"Yeah."

He looked at the person across from him, a smile curling his lips. "It's been a while. How have you been?"

"I've been perfectly fine. I'm all prepped for the final competition too. It starts right after the charity gala."

She reached out to take the tissue Rhys handed her, wiped her mouth, and began packing the messy takeout containers into a bag.

He asked out of the blue, "I heard you and Caden went through with the paperwork?"

She hesitated for a second, then nodded. "Yes. Once the mandatory waiting period is over, we'll get the final certificate."

He watched her, his lips parting slightly, but in the end, he didn't say what was on his mind. Instead, he simply said, "That's good. Congratulations in advance on gaining your freedom."

"Thank you."

"Shera, there's a guest outside to see you."

A knock sounded at the door, and Zena peeked her head in.

Shera nodded, tossing the tissue into the trash bin. "I'm done eating. Have the guest wait in the reception room, I'll be right out."

"Got it."

Seeing that she still had work to do, Rhys stood up and buttoned his jacket.

"I'll let you get back to it. I have some business at the company anyway."

Stepping forward, she extended a hand, her voice melodic. "Hello, Ms. Jewell. I've heard so much about you. It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

Her eyes subtly locked onto Rhys standing nearby.

The moment Rhys saw the newcomer, the lingering smile on his face vanished instantly. He stared at the woman in red, his jaw clenching as his hands formed tight fists at his sides.

Completely oblivious to the tension radiating from the man beside her, Shera shook the offered hand. "Hello, how may I address you?"

"Ms. Jewell," Vivienne said, parting her red lips, "my English name is Vivienne."

"Hello, Vivienne."

"I suppose you haven't made the connection," Vivienne hinted. "I'm the one who added your contact info a while back."

Prompted by the reminder, Shera finally recalled the 'fan' from earlier. She smiled. "I almost forgot! I had no idea you were so beautiful."

Vivienne smiled and nodded, her gaze drifting—seemingly by accident—to Rhys. "And this gentleman... is he your partner?"

Shera quickly denied it. "This is my brother."
