Summer had gotten plastic surgery.
She now looked about seventy percent like Hilda.
She knew Luther and Hilda had remarried, and that Hilda was two or three months pregnant. Husbands in this phase were usually lonely and sexually frustrated, making them incredibly easy to seduce. Summer had been confident she would win tonight, but she hadn't expected Luther to reject her outright.
He didn't want her at all.
Summer opened her mouth to speak, but Yorick shot her a look, signaling her to leave. Having no other choice, the young girl turned to go. As she reached the door, she couldn't help but look up at Luther. The man was just as aristocratic and untouchable as she remembered. The cold, indifferent way he looked at her actually sent a thrill through her body.
So many times, she had woken up from dreams about him.
Waking up drenched in sweat.
Her eyes wet with tears.
Because she had been dreaming of Mr. Sanford.
Summer looked up at him, her eyes filled with nervous longing.
But the man walked right past her and sat down on the sofa.
Someone with a bit of tact quickly shut the door, cutting off Summer's lingering gaze. They poured Luther a glass of imported liquor and lit a cigarette for him.
Luther raised a hand to stop them. "I drove myself. I'm only staying for a bit before I head back to Hilda. She's pregnant."
Yorick sat to the side, looking slightly dazed.
It was true he had wanted to disgust Hilda.
But hearing Luther speak so affectionately about his private life with his wife still made Yorick feel a sting of defeat. Even though he could never compare to Luther, he had lived a charmed life. He had never failed to get a woman he wanted—except for Hilda. She belonged to Luther, and he could never touch her.
Yorick downed his drink in one gulp.
He looked at Luther, his expression genuinely earnest. "I'll drink to you first! Luther, I was thoughtless before and did some things that pissed you off. We're brothers, and we've got a long road ahead. I'm hoping you'll still look out for me in the future."
Luther swirled the glass in his hand and offered a faint smile.
He didn't drink, but just showing up was a statement in itself.
Yorick drank three glasses in a row to prove his loyalty.
He had no other choice.
He had to be loyal.
In less than a year, Luther had swallowed up a third of the Judson family's assets in Havenworth City. It was like giving wings to a tiger. Now, Luther was the undisputed king of the Southeast. Aegis Group's valuation was hitting a trillion, and Luther personally held over eight hundred billion. He was the newest richest man in the country.
Luther stayed for exactly one hour.
He handed Yorick a minor project.
It wasn't particularly lucrative and didn't have much of a profit margin; it was clearly a loyalty test.
Yet Yorick accepted it with overwhelming gratitude.
