"Ms. Croix!"
A sweet, childish voice called out from behind.
Joyce turned around.
She saw a beautiful little girl in a light blue school uniform with her hair tied in two small braids. She was exquisitely pretty, the kind of girl who could be a child star. And inexplicably, she looked familiar.
The little girl trotted up to her and looked up.
"Hello, Ms. Croix."
"My name is Annie Cassidy."
"Class President of Grade 3, Class 2."
Joyce smiled warmly. It was the new transfer student.
The principal had specifically briefed her about it yesterday.
Saying she came from a very powerful family.
Joyce instantly felt a surge of affection for the beautiful girl. She reached out and ruffled her hair: "Alright then, let's head to class together."
Annie gave a slow hum of agreement.
All her attention was entirely focused on her mother's hand.
It was so soft and warm.
It felt so good she practically wanted to close her eyes and lean into it.
Her eyes grew damp.
She had never imagined the day would come when her mother would return.
Even with a different identity, she was still her and Landon's mother. She missed her so much. She desperately wanted to throw herself into her mother's arms.
Joyce just thought the girl was incredibly precious.
Her eyes were so bright and expressive.
As the two were about to walk away, a deep voice rang out from behind: "Ms. Croix."
Hm?
That voice...
Joyce turned around.
A highly aristocratic man stepped out of the luxury car.
A few seconds later, she recognized him as the man from the parking garage that night.
The one who knew Damien.
She looked at Luther, then down at little Annie.
Annie quickly offered an explanation: "This is my dad! He already has kids and is currently single, but he's constantly surrounded by all kinds of 'aunties.' He has a lot of girlfriends. Ms. Croix, you know exactly what I mean, right?"
Joyce was a bit taken aback, but then she chuckled.
"I think I understand."
So he was just another wealthy playboy.
She wondered if he was divorced or a widower.
Luther walked over.
He glanced down at Annie first.
Annie was casually tugging on her backpack straps.
Luther turned his gaze to Joyce, his expression unreadable, though his tone was entirely upright, playing the part of a perfect gentleman and father: "Kids say the wildest things, please don't take it to heart. I'm Luther Sanford. It's wonderful to see you again, Ms. Croix. I hope Annie can be a good little helper for you."
Luther Sanford?
Annie Cassidy?
Joyce raised an eyebrow slightly.
Luther smiled faintly.
"She took her mother's last name."
"Her mother and I also have a younger son named Landon. He's five, in kindergarten. If you ever have the time, you're welcome to come over and meet him. He's incredibly adorable."
