**Chapter 33**
Stella felt a familiar tug of concern as she picked up her phone to reach out to Annabeth. The thought of visiting her friend in the hospital had crossed her mind multiple times, but life had a way of complicating plans. “How are you holding up?” she asked, her voice laced with genuine care.
“I’m fine. I’ll be discharged from the hospital once this last IV bag finishes,” Annabeth replied, her tone calm but weary.
Stella could hear the faint beeping of machines in the background, a stark reminder of the severity of Annabeth’s condition. Just two nights prior, she had been battling a stomach illness that had left her weak and vulnerable. The doctor had insisted on keeping her on drips for two consecutive days, a decision that had both frustrated and relieved Annabeth.
Despite the circumstances, Stella’s determination to see her friend grew stronger. The hospital was a sterile environment, but the warmth of friendship could brighten even the coldest of places.
As she contemplated her visit, her phone buzzed with a call from Jonathan. “I’ve got good news,” he said, his voice cheerful. “I found a driver for you. He just retired from the military last year, so he’s more than capable of handling the job.”
Stella felt a wave of relief wash over her. “That’s great! What’s his name?” she inquired, eager to learn more.
“His name is Daniel Rosco. I’ll send you his contact details,” Jonathan responded, his tone businesslike but friendly.
Once she received the information, Stella wasted no time in reaching out to Daniel. He was currently at Jonathan’s company, and he still had to swing by Maven Manor to pick up her car. “He should be here in about an hour,” she thought, mentally preparing herself for the day ahead. “I’ll use that time to take a leisurely stroll out of the villa.”
“Let me know when you’re about thirty minutes away,” she instructed Daniel, hoping to make her exit from the villa as seamless as possible.
“Will do,” he replied, his voice steady and professional.
The clock ticked away, and by 10:30 AM, as Stella stepped out of the villa, the car pulled up right in front of her. The driver emerged, moving with purpose, and walked around to open the front passenger door for her.
Stella took a moment to assess him. He stood tall, around six feet, with a buzz cut that accentuated his sharp features. His posture was impeccably straight, radiating an air of discipline that only someone with military training could possess. There was a quiet strength about him that made her feel at ease.
“Good morning, Ms. Roberts,” Daniel said, handing her his resume with a nod.
She took the document and skimmed through it. His name was indeed Daniel Rosco, a 28-year-old who had enlisted at the tender age of 18. The fact that Jonathan had vetted him gave her confidence in his abilities.
“How much did my brother offer you?” Stella asked, curiosity piqued.
“Twenty thousand dollars,” Daniel replied without hesitation.
She raised an eyebrow. “You’re aware that I’ll only need you for a short while, correct?”
“Yes, I’m aware,” he answered, his tone unwavering.
