She’s Done. He’s Breaking novel Chapter 38

**Chapter 38**

“I have a document from Grendale that I need your expertise on. Would you mind taking a look at it for me?” Theodore asked, his tone casual yet earnest.

“Of course! Just send it my way whenever you can,” Stella replied, her voice warm and accommodating.

With a gentle smile, Theodore took a prawn he had skillfully peeled and placed it on Stella’s plate. “Thank you very much, Stella,” he said, his eyes twinkling with appreciation.

Angela, sitting nearby, raised an eyebrow and inquired, “What exactly are you thanking Stella for?”

Theodore shrugged slightly, “I merely asked her for a bit of assistance.”

Angela’s expression shifted to one of concern as she admonished, “Have you forgotten that she’s pregnant? Why are you burdening her with work?”

Stella, however, interjected with a reassuring smile, “It’s really just a small matter, Angela. I don’t mind at all.”

Angela had always been kind to Stella, a fact that Stella appreciated. They had never clashed over shared interests or felt the need to defend their reputations against one another. Occasionally, Angela even found herself agreeing with Kieran, recognizing Stella’s intelligence and capabilities.

Cynthia Cole, Todd’s wife and Theodore’s sister-in-law, chimed in with a playful tone, “Seems like Theodore and Stella have quite the bond, huh?”

Angela nodded, a hint of nostalgia in her voice. “They went to the same school together. Stella was the top scholar in science during their college entrance exams, beating Theodore by just one point.”

This intriguing tidbit had come to light when Eloise had sent her men to conduct a background check on Stella. Angela had felt a flicker of recognition at Stella’s name, recalling the disappointment she felt when Theodore lost to her by such a narrow margin. That small detail had etched itself into her memory.

While Stella might not have been the most conventionally attractive person, her intelligence and capabilities shone brightly. She was a virtuous woman, more than qualified to support Tristan. It was simply unfortunate that he didn’t seem to notice her worth.

Yet, one could understand why Tristan might not be swayed by Stella’s intellect. He was, after all, a genius among geniuses.

Cynthia’s eyes widened as if she had just stumbled upon an epiphany. “Is that so? Fate has a peculiar way of weaving connections, doesn’t it?”

“Indeed,” Theodore sighed, a hint of disbelief in his voice. “I never imagined that the girl who called me Theo would one day rise to a higher standing than I have within the Somerton family.”

Stella couldn’t help but steal a glance at Theodore. He was merely three months her senior, yet during their school days, he had taken to teasing her, insisting she call him “Theo” whenever she sought his help.

“Well, you should hurry up and find yourself a girlfriend who’s even more accomplished than Stella,” Cynthia urged playfully, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
