The next day, Lyra pulled up to the Grayson family estate and gave Waylon Grayson a call.
When Waylon came outside, Lyra handed him an elegant invitation with a breezy smile. "I don't have any other business today. I just came to drop off the invitation. Make sure your whole family comes to celebrate."
Waylon smiled as he opened the envelope. The calligraphy inside was done in perfect, flowing script, carrying a graceful and refined artistic touch.
"I didn't expect you to deliver this personally. You must have been incredibly busy lately."
Lyra tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and smiled lightly. "It hasn't been too bad."
In reality, Maddie and Waylon were the only two people she had delivered invitations to personally. The rest had been handled by the butler and her parents.
She made the effort for Waylon purely out of gratitude. In her previous life, when she had hit rock bottom, Waylon had loaned her fifty million dollars, fully aware she was too broke to ever pay him back.
...He had probably just felt sorry for how pathetic she was.
They chatted for a few more minutes before Lyra got back into her car and drove off.
What she failed to notice was Rowan standing on the second-floor balcony, watching the entire exchange.
George Grayson walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows and offered Rowan a wide, flattering smile. "Rowan, if you could just give us the green light on that cultural tourism redevelopment project, we can start pushing it forward immediately."
Rowan let out a low chuckle and pulled his gaze away from the driveway.
He traced the rim of his coffee cup just as Waylon walked up the stairs.
Rowan asked casually, "Why did she drop by?"
"Just dropping off a wedding invitation," Waylon replied. "Probably on her way somewhere else."
George had no idea who they were talking about until he noticed the invitation in his son's hand. "Oh, right! Look at my memory. Caleb is getting married!"
He sighed dramatically. "Look at that. Caleb is around the same age as you two, and he's the first one to tie the knot. You boys need to pick up the pace! Rowan already has a girlfriend, so I'm sure it won't be long for him. Waylon, you're the only one left dragging your feet. You need to find yourself a woman, and fast..."
Rowan smiled smoothly. "No need to worry, Mr. Grayson. Waylon has always been extremely popular with women."
Waylon toyed with the invitation, lowering his eyes with a subtle smirk, perfectly aware of the underlying jab in Rowan's words.
Her dark thoughts were interrupted by Martha's voice. "Oh, the bride is absolutely stunning. Such a perfect figure."
Martha had noticed Lyra staring intently at the photo on her phone and had leaned in for a peek. "Is our Lyra wanting to get married now too? You can't even take your eyes off the dress."
Lyra snapped out of her daze, locked her phone, and smiled.
In this life, she had absolutely zero desire to ever walk down the aisle again.
But saying something like that out loud on such a joyous occasion would only upset her family, so she maintained a polite smile.
One of the relatives chimed in, teasing, "It'll be Lyra's turn soon enough."
As they joked, Lyra noticed a maid tying the ribbons on the favor boxes incorrectly. The bows were completely lopsided. She reached over and gently took the ribbon. "Here, they should be tied like this."
Lyra demonstrated the perfect technique.
Caleb walked through the front door just in time to see her teaching the staff. He laughed and praised her, "You really know your stuff, Lyra. It's almost as if you've been married before!"
