Chapter 52

Chapter 52

That was the fate of Fairchild Holdings.

That was the price of giving her heart to the wrong man!

Arthur remained seated, stunned. He hadn’t expected his daughter to launch into a tearful, desperate plea instead of apologizing.

“Lyra, it’s not that serious-”

“No, it’s going to be worse than you could ever imagine! The company doesn’t need people like that.”

“If we don’t cut out this cancer, we’ll never survive.”

“Dad, just punish me.” Lyra sank down beside his chair. “If you want to bring them back, you’ll have to kill me first!”

The harrowing memories of her past life fueled her stubborn resolve.

She collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. “I’m begging you!”

Arthur had fully intended to discipline her, but the words died in his throat.

The chaotic noise from the lobby had been drifting upstairs, but it slowly faded until everything was finally quiet…

Lyra wiped her tears. “If a workplace is entirely run on nepotism and favors, real talent will never stick around. Why is the Jameson Group so untouchable? Do you think Rowan Jameson hires everyone’s extended family?”

When Caleb had left the study earlier, he hadn’t fully latched the door. Rowan Jameson had simply knocked, and it drifted open. He stared at Lyra sobbing on the floor, a flicker of surprise breaking through his usual icy composure.

“Rowan?”

Lyra froze. She whipped her head around and saw Rowan standing silently in the doorway.

His tall, tailored frame commanded the space, his sharp gaze staring down at her with an imposing

intensity.

For a split second, the air left Lyra’s lungs.

She frantically scrubbed her face, curling her hands into fists as her father helped her up. She practically sprinted for the door. Rowan stepped aside to let her

pass.

He turned to watch her leave. Her head was bowed, exposing the slender, delicate curve of her neck.

“Rowan, what brings you here?”

Rowan tore his eyes away and met Arthur’s gaze. “My father asked me to stop by and see if you needed any help.”

“Charles is too kind.” Arthur stood up with a weary smile. “Ah, the kids are growing up. They’re demanding to call the shots now.”

Chapter 52

“What’s your take on all this, Rowan?”

“Mr. Fairchild, anyone who has betrayed the company has to go. You can’t keep them.”

Arthur nodded slowly. He made a call to his legal team, then another to the Deputy Finance Director. The director arrived shortly after, and Arthur gave the final order. “Follow the termination list my daughter drafted. Finance is to assist legal in expediting the process.”

He had finally listened to the younger generation.

[The company issued its final ruling: all sixteen employees were officially terminated without exception.]

The angry mob demanding justice in the lobby was entirely cleared out.

By the time the Deputy Finance Director arrived, Rowan had finished his conversation with Arthur and briefly spoken with Caleb before leaving.

The Fairchild staff served fresh tea.

Earlier, Delilah had asked Martha to fetch Lyra, but the housekeeper returned saying the young miss was already asleep.

Caleb studied Rowan, noting his completely unreadable expression.

He realized that whatever was between him and his sister was probably over.

In the past, Rowan had always been brutally indifferent, and the relationship survived solely on Lyra’s

relentless devotion.

Now that Lyra had gone cold, there was absolutely zero hope left.

Delilah was about to scold Lyra for her rudeness, but Caleb stopped her. “Mom, she’s had an exhausting day. Let her rest…”

Rowan didn’t comment. He hadn’t come specifically for Lyra anyway, so he simply excused himself.

Stepping out of the Fairchild estate.

Rowan got into his car and clamped a cigarette between his teeth.

He pulled out his phone, scrolled to Lyra’s contact-which he hadn’t messaged in ages-and typed out a text: [Is this what you meant by declaring war?]

A red notification popped up immediately. She had blocked his number.

Rowan furrowed his brow, staring at the screen for two full seconds before tossing the phone aside and driving off.
