Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Lyra took the elevator down and hurried out of The Sapphire Room.
She drove straight to the corporate headquarters as fast as the speed limits allowed. Sure enough, Quentin was still sitting in the HR department. Mr. Whittaker was doing his best to stall with random small talk, and the moment he saw Lyra walk in, he let out a massive sigh of relief.
“Miss Fairchild, here is Mr. Pierce’s resume.”
Lyra took the document, barely glancing at it before turning her brilliant smile on Quentin. “Perfect. You are exactly the kind of talent Fairchild Holdings needs.”
Quentin stared at her in silence.
If Fairchild Holdings wasn’t such a massive, reputable corporation, he would have assumed he had walked into a complete scam. This heiress seemed incredibly unprofessional-she hadn’t asked him a single technical question, he hadn’t demonstrated a line of code on his laptop, and she was already calling him their top talent.
“Do you have all your belongings with you? We provide corporate housing.”
Lyra knew exactly what he was capable of.
There was absolutely no need for an interview.
The only thing that mattered was locking him down.
“I can have a friend ship my things over. But if I’m joining the company, I’d like to discuss the salary-” Quentin’s main priority was securing his compensation.
Lyra pulled a contract straight out of a folder. “I guarantee you will be more than satisfied with the number. Take a look, and if everything seems right, let’s sign it right now.”
Quentin looked at the salary figure on the page and his eyes widened in sheer shock.
“What’s wrong? Is it not enough?”
Lyra watched him stare at the paperwork, growing slightly anxious.
“It’s perfect.” Quentin skimmed the rest of the terms, took the pen with both hands, and signed his
name.
It wasn’t until the ink dried on his signature that Lyra finally let out the breath she’d been holding. The nervous heat rushing through her veins finally settled. “Let me treat you to dinner.”
Quentin blinked, surprised. “Oh, no need for that…”
He offered a slightly shy, boyish smile. “I actually need to go sort out some of my things so I can start working as soon as possible.”
“Alright.” Lyra felt a wave of complex emotions wash over her.
In her past life, Quentin hadn’t been nearly this approachable. After spending years working directly
under Rowan and earning his total trust, Quentin had grown arrogant and refused to listen to anyone but Rowan himself.

Chapter 67
“Mr. Whittaker, please arrange for someone to show him to his apartment.”
She turned back to Quentin. “Take the weekend to settle in and organize your things. Is Monday okay for your official start date?”
“Sounds great to me.” Quentin nodded and followed the HR rep out.
Once he was gone, Mr. Whittaker hesitated before asking, “Miss Fairchild, is he really that exceptional?”
In her past life, Rowan had poured endless millions into assembling a team of elite geniuses, and Quentin had been the undisputed crown jewel among them.
He was the absolute core of the Jameson Group’s tech empire.
And this time, Lyra had gotten to him first. A triumphant thrill shot through her. “Yes. He’s going to be the absolute face of this company.”
Lyra returned to her office and immediately ordered a batch of high-end ergonomic chairs through the procurement department.
When Monday rolled around and Quentin arrived for his first day, Caleb stopped by the department to check on things. One of the senior engineers was already teasing the new hire.
“Man, Miss Fairchild really loves you… you even get a different chair than the rest of us. Come on, spill it. Are you a nepo baby?”
Quentin just shook his head. “I don’t even know her…”
He was a man of few words, and after that brief response, he booted up his computer and dove straight into work.
Caleb watched for a moment before walking away.
He headed over to the executive suite to find his sister but her office was empty. After giving her a call, he found out she had driven to the airport to see Leo off. “I need you to come to a banquet with me tonight, and we need to talk about this Quentin guy… never mind, we’ll talk when you get back.”
At the airport, Lyra was the only one who had shown up for Leo.
“Leo,” she said, pulling him into a hug right before he headed through security. Thinking back to when she had anonymously sent him the photos proving his girlfriend was cheating on him, she murmured, “I’m sorry…”
Leo had no idea what she was apologizing for.
“Stay safe over there, and build a great life for yourself.”
He easily brushed off the first half of her sentence. “Will do. I’ll keep my head on straight, and you take care of yourself, too.”
“Rowan and Caspian aren’t right for you anyway. When I finally make it big and come back to the States, I’ll personally vet some decent guys for you. We’re young, we’ve got plenty of time.”

Lyra just smiled.
She stood there watching until Leo disappeared down the terminal concourse, then finally turned to leave.
She hadn’t taken more than a few steps before she saw Lucas leaning casually against a pillar, trying
to look cool. Treating him like empty air, she walked right past him.
“Aren’t you even going to ask why I’m here?” Lucas called out.
Lyra didn’t spare him a single glance.
