Chapter 8

Liana stopped overthinking and replied with a simple “Okay” before closing the chat window.
Just then, her personal email chimed with a new message.
It was from the client seeking a divorce attorney.
She opened it. The text was practically shaking with rage.
“W, listen, that shameless woman hid my grandson from me. I want her thrown out with nothing, completely ruined!
“She’s fickle and disgusting. She must be cheating!”
Liana exhaled quietly. The hysteria all but jumped off the screen. She found the phone number attached to the email and dialed.
After a few rings, a wary woman’s voice answered. “Hello, who is this?”
“Hello, I’m W.”
Liana went straight to the point.
The line went silent for a moment, then erupted with breathless excitement.
“Ms. W? Is that really you? Oh my god!
“I thought W was a man. You sound so young!”
“Ma’am, please calm down,” Liana said, lifting a brow. “I need to understand the full details of the case.”
“Yes, yes, of course! When can we meet? I can’t wait another second!”
Liana considered it. Her house-bought before she married Logan-had sat untouched for three
years. She needed to clean it before moving back in.
“Tomorrow at three. Blue Ridge Cafe in the Southside District. Is that alright?”
“Perfect! Absolutely!”
That settled, the call ended.
That evening, Logan returned to the cream-colored villa reeking of exhaustion and alcohol. He kicked off his shoes like always and called toward the empty living room, “Liana, get me some water.”

Silence.
He frowned. “Liana?”
Only the ticking of the ornate clock answered him.
Liana had gone head-to-head with him at the company today, then walked out carrying nothing but a battered cardboard box.
He walked to the shoe cabinet. Everything of hers was still in place-heels, flats, slippers- neatly lined up. Untouched.
She hadn’t come back.
Logan’s expression darkened instantly.
Great. Just great.
She embarrassed him in front of shareholders earlier, and now she dared not return home? He thought she would cool off and crawl back eventually, but instead, she was getting bolder.
He clenched his jaw, fury burning in his chest.
He stormed upstairs in a fit of anger. Fine. Let her be stubborn. See how long she could keep it
Did she really think that if she ran off and didn’t come home, he would worry? That he would go looking for her?
Dream on.
He didn’t care in the slightest whether she came back or not.
The next morning, Liana checked out of the hotel with her small cardboard box and took a cab to an upscale neighborhood on the edge of the city. The car stopped in front of a simple, modern villa. She had bought this place with her own money before marriage. It was not big, but it was quiet.
When she opened the door, a wave of dust rushed out. She had not been back in three years, and everything inside was covered in a thin gray layer. She spent the entire morning cleaning
every corner of the house.
When sunlight poured through the spotless floor-to-ceiling windows and lit up the clean floors, Liana felt tired, but her heart was calm.
She went to a nearby market, bought fresh vegetables and meat, and cooked herself a full lunch. After eating, she rested on the sunny terrace for a little while.

Chapter 8
When it was almost time to meet her client, Liana changed into a neat business suit. She picked up her laptop and notebook and headed to the cafe.

Liana arrived five minutes before three at Blue Ridge Cafe.
She looked around and quickly spotted a well-dressed woman sitting by the window. The woman wore a new Chanel suit and a pearl necklace. Her makeup was perfect, but her brows held a cloud of worry and anger.
Liana recognized her right away.
She was Olivia’s mother-in-law, Lucinda Yardley, wife of the chairman of the Lynch Corporation.
Liana had seen her once at a business event, from far away.
Her heart sank. She never expected the client who wanted to sue her daughter-in-law for cheating to be her. That meant the person being sued was Olivia.
What a twist of fate.
While Liana was stunned, Lucinda also saw her and clearly recognized her. Her face froze for a moment before she frowned.
Liana walked over, bracing herself.
“Mrs. Young?”
Lucinda looked at her, then glanced behind her and, seeing no one else, asked in confusion, What are you doing here? Were you coming to see me?”
