Sleeping With the Wrong Man: Uncle vs. Nephew novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Every one of those cases listed the same attorney-W.

Lucinda’s pupils tightened as she read the name again and again. When she lifted her gaze to Liana, her expression had completely changed.

“You… You’re really W?”

Her voice even went off-pitch.

Liana closed the laptop and spoke with professional calm. “Now, Mrs. Lynch, can we discuss your case?”

Lucinda snapped back to herself. The arrogance she held earlier vanished at once. She leaned forward, her attitude turning warm and respectful.

“Of course. Mrs. Young-no, Ms. Wade. I had no idea. I was blind not to recognize who you were.”

Liana watched her without rising or lowering herself. She waited.

The more Lucinda looked at her composed, steady demeanor, the more impressed she became. This Liana was not simple.

“Here’s what happened,” Lucinda said, lowering her voice as hatred crept across her expression. “My daughter-in-law, Olivia, is not a decent woman.

“I saw through her the moment she married into the family. She only wanted money. Now that she feels secure, she’s encouraging my son to move company assets and has even taken my grandson away. She’s hiding him from us.

“I suspect she’s seeing someone on the side.’

Lucinda ground her teeth. “I had her followed and investigated. She’s been meeting with a man far too often, and there are photos. They’re blurry, but I know it. She’s cheating.”

Liana remained calm. She didn’t need to guess who the man was. It was Logan.

Lucinda didn’t know the identity of the man in the photos. She only wanted Olivia ruined and forced her out with nothing.

“My demands are simple,” Lucinda said, looking Liana directly in the eye. “First, I want custody of my grandson.

“Second, I want her out of the marriage with nothing. She doesn’t get a cent from the Lynch family.

“Third, I want her affair exposed. I want her reputation destroyed so she never lifts her head again.”

Liana listened while taking quick notes.

“Mrs. Lynch, regarding custody, how old is the child? Since Olivia took him, have you or your son attempted any communication?

“For the assets, do you have any proof she transferred marital property without consent?

“And for the affair, your evidence is only a few unclear photos? Do we know the man’s identity?”

Her rapid, focused questions left Lucinda blinking, struggling to keep up.

As they continued talking, Liana’s presence, clarity, and professional command completely subdued her.

Lucinda grew more certain that her expensive retainer fee had been money well spent.

Once they finalized all the terms of the engagement and pinpointed Lucinda’s core objectives, Liana closed her notebook.

“Alright, Mrs. Lynch. I have a clear understanding of the situation.

“I’ll need some time to draft a full litigation plan, including an evidence chain, asset- protection measures, and public-opinion strategy.”

Lucinda nodded, satisfied.

Looking at the calm, professional, and almost startlingly beautiful young woman across from her, Lucinda suddenly felt a fierce urge to pull her closer, to secure someone like her as an ally.

Logan’s wife and the legendary attorney W. A connection like this had to be held tight.

“Ms. Wade, thank you so much for today,” she said warmly. “It’s getting late. Why don’t I host you for dinner? We can talk more.”

Liana rose to her feet and declined with polite firmness. “No need, Mrs. Lynch. Dinner isn’t necessary. Our relationship is a professional one I’ll bring you the plan as soon as it’s ready.”

She picked up her bag.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll head out.”

She turned and left the cafe without looking back

But the moment she stepped outside, she froze. A few steps ahead, leaning against the rough stone wall, stood the last person she wanted to see.

It was Logan. He lounged there as if he owned the sidewalk, a burning red cigarette trapped between his fingers. Smoke curled around his face, blurring the sharp lines of it, but his eyes cut through the haze, cold and hard.

The moment he saw her, he crushed the half-smoked cigarette against the wall, smothering the ember with unnecessary force. Then he pushed away from the wall and walked toward her, long strides eating up the space. His mouth curled in a mocking half-smile.

“Liana, you really made me work to find you.”

Liana felt her brows draw together distinctly, a wave of nausea rising in her stomach. His scent reached her first, that familiar mix of cigarettes and cologne she once thought intoxicating. Now it made her want to recoil.

“You tracked my movements?”

Logan let out a sharp laugh and stepped closer.

“Tracked? My wife disappears for two days, ignores every call, and I’m worried about your safety. I came looking for you, and that’s what you call it?”

The self-righteous tone would have been comical if it weren’t so pathetic.

Worried?

The last two days, her phone had rung a few times. His name glowed on the screen each time.

She had already chosen to end this farce of a relationship, so she didn’t answer. She never expected he would actually hunt her down.

Liana didn’t bother to explain, didn’t even want to look at him. Talking to him felt like swallowing something foul, leaving her entire body tense with disgust.

She turned to walk past him.

A hand clamped around her wrist like a steel trap.

Logan yanked her back, his grip so tight it sent pain shooting up her arm. “How long do you plan to keep this up?” he demanded, voice heavy with irritation and anger.

The pull forced her to stumble, turning to meet the unmistakable displeasure in his eyes. What she saw in his expression told her everything.

He believed coming to find her in person was already an extraordinary act of generosity, a way of offering her a graceful way out.

He believed he had given her a full two days to act out, to vent whatever childish, unreasonable temper she wanted.
