“And do you know something? Layla’s already my wife.”
Atlas delivered the comeback with a leisurely smirk.

The statement dropped like a bombshell in the restaurant, stunning everyone, who instantly turned their gaze to Layla.
Annie gave Layla an approving thumbs-up.
“Layla, I’ve never been one to concede, but today, you’ve truly earned my respect!”
Annie already had the perfect title for today’s forum post in mind: [Dumped by a jerk, she snagged a sweetheart.]
Layla ground her teeth and turned to glare at the fox in question.
He was either staring at the ceiling or examining his shoes, looking anywhere but at Layla.
Caleb, meanwhile, was so stunned his eyes practically bugged out.
Incensed, he demanded, “Layla, is what this guy saying true? You actually married him? Didn’t we just break up yesterday?”
“I thought we were done the moment you spent your rut with Xanthe.”
“Layla!”
“What, want a showdown?”
Caleb, flushed with anger, instantly sobered up at Layla’s words. “Always wanting to fight, Layla. A barbaric woman like you is absolutely unfit to be a wife! Only a spineless pretty boy would ever marry you!”
Atlas had initially been a little apprehensive, as Layla had warned him before they left not to expose their marital status.
But hearing that ape speak had simply enraged Atlas too much to resist.
Who did he think he was, claiming to be Layla’s fiancé?
But then hearing himself called a weakling instantly irked Atlas.
He flashed a dangerous grin. “Calling me a weakling? Fine by me. Let’s settle it, just the two of us.”
Atlas was actually taller than Caleb, but his slim build, with veins visible on his hands, and his strikingly handsome features made people subconsciously assume he wasn’t as strong as Caleb.
Caleb himself certainly thought so.

Chapter 10
Layla remained silent.
Her fists were itching. She wanted to punch both Caleb and Atlas!
Especially Atlas! Hadn’t they agreed before leaving not to expose their marital status?
What if they divorced tomorrow?

Caleb was one of the top students among the freshmen, and Annie and the others felt that the dashing young man couldn’t beat him.
They all felt sympathetic towards the young man.
“Caleb, I used to think you were a gentleman, so honorable. What, you’re allowed to cheat and betray, but Layla isn’t allowed to find another man?”
“Exactly! And bullying the weaker? Why don’t you let your new fiancée come out and challenge Layla?”
“I heard his fiancée’s shift tier and psychic force are both only C-Tier. Tsk, tsk, she might not even get into Imperial Academy!”
“Oh, if Layla so much as sneezed, his new fiancée would probably be blown away?”
Caleb’s face cycled from pale to red to deep crimson, his clenched fists trembling.
He valued his reputation above all else, and if he really came to blows with that pretty boy, he’d lose even more respect from his classmates.
Noticing the hesitation in Caleb’s eyes, Atlas said impatiently, “Why are you dragging your feet, you ape? Come on, let’s head to the Mech Combat Arena so I can pound you. I need to get back to eating with Layla before our food gets cold.”
Caleb was practically furious. He sneered, “You’re certainly confident, aren’t you?”
Atlas nodded. “Yeah, because I’ve never lost.”
Caleb was speechless.
Spurred on by the provocation, Caleb had no way out. If he backed down now, he’d lose his last shred of dignity.
Since that was the case, he’d give that naive pretty boy a proper beating!
And Layla would see who the truly superior man was!
Before heading to the Mech Combat Arena, Caleb raised his chin and proudly told Layla, “I’m fighting him, but not for you. And don’t worry, I’ll go easy on him.”
Layla shook her head. “You should be praying he goes easy on you.”
Caleb froze.

Layla offered no explanation.
Atlas, as Alpha Prime’s youngest and most exceptional commander, had no equal, not only Caleb but no one on all of Alpha Prime could match him.
But she wasn’t sure if Atlas’s combat strength during his rut would differ compared to his usual self.
And what would Atlas think about fighting out of spite once reason returned?
Perhaps he’d never want this embarrassing episode brought up again.
The crowd surged, following them to the College of Military’s Mech Combat Arena.
Layla and Caleb were already well-known figures among the freshmen, not to mention the dashing younger man accompanying them.
So this match attracted considerable attention.
Caleb pointed to the side. “To avoid claims of me bullying you, we’ll use the training mech suits provided by the arena.”
Atlas said impatiently, “Quit stalling!”
Caleb was speechless.
The two men stepped onto the platform. Layla watched from the sidelines, her gaze calm and collected, as if she had complete faith in her young sweetheart.
Annie leaned in, a little concerned. “Layla, aren’t you worried Caleb will injure your sweetheart?”
“Not a chance.”
She was more concerned that Atlas would leave Caleb flat out.
Annie shook her head. “I didn’t realize you were tough on yourself, but you’re just as tough on your man. Oh, by the way, where did you find such a dashing, sweet, and utterly devoted sweetheart?”
“What do you
mean?”
“Find one for me too.”
Layla looked at Annie, whose cat ears were twitching, a little speechless. “Don’t you already have a fiancé?”
“Having a fiancé and snagging a sweetheart aren’t mutually exclusive. Besides, my fiancé is probably even more unreliable than your original one. I’m thinking of making a change.”
Layla was speechless.
As the two chatted, the Mech Combat Arena suddenly fell silent.
Layla looked up, only to find that only one mech suit remained on the platform.

The other training mech suit was smashed against the wall, stuck fast-a testament to the opponent’s overwhelming strength.
Atlas jumped down from the mech suit in the center of the platform and came to Layla’s side, his eyes sparkling. “Layla, let’s head back to the restaurant and cat. You must be starving!”
Layla nodded.
Alright, Atlas hadn’t been too brutal with Caleb. The damage wasn’t severe, but the humiliation must be excruciating.
It should be enough to infuriate the ape.
The two walked out together. Annie and the others, bewildered a moment ago by why the match ended so quickly, the next, they were all envious of Layla.
This sweetheart was so devoted to Layla.
Caleb’s friends rushed forward to extract him from the crumpled mech suit.
Seeing Caleb, nose bleeding and eyes glazed over, his friend quickly asked, “Caleb, what happened? How did that pretty boy slam you against the wall in the blink of an eye?”
Caleb wiped a hand across his bloody nose. “If you can’t say anything useful, shut up!”
While Caleb was fuming, the instigator, after leaving the Mech Combat Arena with Layla, noticed she was ignoring him. Cautiously, he tugged on Layla’s sleeve with a puppy-dog look.
“Star, what’s wrong? Was my fighting form not cool enough just now? Will you pay attention to me, please?”
