Chapter 106 Being Force Fed Romance
Chapter 106 Being Force-Fed Romance
Layla could sense someone tailing her, but she kept her cool. She walked on, her steps and breathing steady as ever.
Too bad the glass wall was covered in dust, so she couldn’t catch a glimpse of whoever was behind her. Without a sound, Layla palmed her retractable whip, judging how far they were by the soft sound of footsteps.
When she reached the corner, Layla spun around and snapped her whip out in a flash.
The person behind her hadn’t expected her to strike so suddenly, but with lightning reflexes, he sprang up and dodged her
attack.
Layla finally got a good look at the guy. “Randall?”
Randall’s face stayed as serious as ever, but he raised an eyebrow. “Not bad. You’ve got some moves.”
“Weren’t you injured? Wasn’t Annie supposed to be with you?” Layla asked.
“I had some official business to take care of,” Randall replied.
“Oh, then I’ll go find Annie,” Layla said.
They passed each other, but as soon as Randall turned the corner and walked away, Layla glanced back, suspicion flickering in her eyes.
She could smell blood on Randall. She thought, ‘He must’ve been hurt recently, but his wounds had been treated, so nothing showed on the surface.
‘From what Annie had said, Randall was seriously injured, but shifters recover quickly from superficial wounds. Give it a few days, and he’d be fine.
‘Randall’s boss is Roger, and with November investigating those sudden deaths, Randall is probably summoned for questioning.
‘But the real question is, why is he tailing me just now?
‘Maybe I was just overthinking it.’
Layla kept walking, suspicion still lingering in her mind.
There were other stellar rangers along the way, but since November had sent someone to pick her up and handed her a special pass, not only did they let her through, they even gave her respectful nods and salutes.
Same deal with the stellar rangers on the aero-vehicle earlier.
Layla thought, ‘November must’ve told them something.
‘I wonder if November’s rut is going to make things complicated for him while he’s handling all this.’
By the time Layla finally met up with Annie, her thoughts were all over the place, and she was a bit out of it.
Annie didn’t notice Layla’s distraction. She asked, “Layla, is everything okay at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core? I nearly had a heart attack when you mentioned the bombing.”
“Celia and the kids are all fine, but it’s not safe to stay there anymore. I brought them here, and we’ll head back to Alpha Prime together. I’m planning to rent a place to get them settled for now,” Layla replied.
“That’s a relief. So, are you thinking about opening an orphanage on Alpha Prime? It’s a shame I can’t go back to the Knight family right now, or I would definitely help you!” Annie said.
Layla shook her head. “That’s not in the plans yet. Let’s get them settled first, and then we’ll take things one step at a time.”
“Alright,” Annie said.
Layla glanced around, and it was obvious this place had a couple of vibes all over it. Traces were everywhere that Annie and Randall had made their home together.
Layla had actually done some digging about Randall for Annie’s sake, and the feedback she got was all pretty positive.
Still, that whole tailing thing just now left Layla feeling uneasy.
Layla asked tentatively, “Annie, was Randall badly hurt? I ran into him earlier when I was coming to find you. He said his boss called him in for something.”
“Yeah, it was about those rebels who suddenly died. That’s how Randall ended up getting hurt,” Annie replied.
“What happened?” Layla pressed.

Annie explained, “Randall was on shift guarding the revers when, out on nowhere, they all started coughing up blood. The one he was watching hadn’t started yet, so he tried to knock the guy out, but the rebel suddenly broke free and went after

Annie still looked rattled as she spoke. “The rebel was desperate to die, so he fought like crazy. Luckily, the other stellar rangers rushed in and helped take him down, but Randall ended up with a broken arm and a deep wound in his abdomen.”
For an elite shifter like Randall, those wounds were no big deal. He’d be good as new in a week or two, tops.
But Annie was so worried about Randall that she still looked pretty shaken, clearly anxious about what had happened.
Layla decided not to push it any further. After chatting a bit more, she suggested, “You haven’t been sleeping well these past couple of days. Why not get some rest?”
“I’m managing, but with Randall and the others heading back to Alpha Prime soon, I honestly have no idea what I’m supposed to do. Layla, I really envy you. Your family just leaves you alone,” Annie said.
When Layla didn’t respond, Annie realized she’d put her foot in her mouth and quickly said, “Sorry, Layla, that’s not what I meant. I just-
“I get that you’re feeling down, but you can’t keep running from this. Once school starts, your family will track you down there. It’s not like you can just not go to school,” Layla said.
Annie just wilted like a sad kitten and nodded.
Layla felt a little bad for her. “Does Randall know about your family? What did he say?”
“He told me that as long as I want to be with him, he’ll stand by my side, no matter what comes our way!” Annie replied.
Just seconds ago, Annie had been all gloomy, but remembering her partner’s words, she instantly looked like the happiest girl in the world.
Layla thought, ‘Just being force-fed romance.’
They chatted for a bit longer before Layla finally headed out.

But after leaving Annie’s place, Layla realized she’d probably just been overthinking it. Randall probably wasn’t up to anything after all.
With all those suspected rebels suddenly kicking the bucket, November’s gonna have his hands full for a while.
Layla didn’t bother messaging him again. Instead, she headed back to her room, booted up her optical computer, and logged onto the mech suit forum.
All the blueprints she’d posted had already sold out, and the starcoins were sitting pretty in her account. Since she picked up a custom mech suit that “November” ordered on the forum, she got to work, prepping the basic components.
A mech suit needed at least three thousand parts, and the S Tier mech suit called for some special performance materials on top of the usual stuff.
Layla started sourcing all these parts online, and for the delivery address, she just put down her dorm room at school. But that wasn’t gonna work forever. She really needed to find a regular place to get her deliveries.
When it came to the metal for the mech suit’s weapon, if she wanted something that could pack a punch and take a hit, she’ d have to hunt down a metal with some serious stretch to it.
She marked that one with a big question mark on her list, but the rest was easy enough. In a few days, once she was back on Alpha Prime, she could finally get to work.
Whenever Layla got caught up in mech suit stuff, time just flew by.
When Layla finally looked up and rubbed her aching neck, the lounge door burst open, and November strode in.
He wasn’t wearing his mask and was dressed in his military uniform. He looked cold and fierce, with a dangerous edge to him.
Layla froze for a few seconds.
But in the next instant, November irritably yanked open the top buttons of his jacket, his fox ears popped out, and his whole face was scrunched up in a sulky, miserable way.
“Layla, I missed you so much! We haven’t seen each other for hours!” November said.
