Chapter 105 Someone Is Following Me
Chapter 105 Someone Is Following Me
Layla couldn’t help but worry about Annie. And the way those captives suddenly committed suicide was just too suspicious.
Layla wondered, ‘Did something big happen at the base?’
The way those people went on a killing spree among the passengers still haunted her. Layla couldn’t bring herself to leave Celia and the kids behind, so she stayed.
Every second felt like an eternity.
After about ten minutes, Annie called Layla.
“Layla, something just happened. I heard you, Celia, and the kids are on the spacecraft at the port, right?” Annie said.
“That’s right, are you okay?” Layla replied.
“I’m okay, but Randall was hurt. I’m with him now.”
“Just stay with him. I’ll catch up with you later.”
“Okay.”
Not long after Layla hung up, a large aero-vehicle arrived outside the ship. It was big enough to carry twenty or thirty people.
Just then, November called.
“Layla, I sent someone to pick you up. The aero-vehicle is already waiting at the ship’s entrance,” November said.
“Alright,” November replied.
Hearing November’s calm voice, Layla felt relaxed. She gathered Celia and the kids and boarded the aero-vehicle.
The stellar rangers on board saluted Layla respectfully, then helped Celia settle the kids in.
With a motherly smile, Celia turned to a young stellar ranger and asked, “How old are you, young man?”
“24.”
“You’re so young! So, are you married yet?” Celia asked.
The young stellar ranger was speechless.
Layla couldn’t help but laugh. ‘Older folks just can’t stop nagging about getting married. Doesn’t matter the species or the planet, she thought.
She flashed the ranger an apologetic smile, then gently urged Celia to take a seat.
Celia looked a bit embarrassed. “See, I’m so used to nagging you all about this. You all came to Wastelands-9 Orphan Core because you lost your homes.
“So every year I pray that those of you who grew up and left will find happiness in your own little families.”
Celia thought, ‘If people can’t find their real family, then building a little family of their own is just as meaningful.’
Layla understood Celia’s good intentions. “Don’t worry, Ms. Brennan. We’ll all find happiness.”
“That’s right, you will! Oh, and Layla, what’s Ninth’s family like? You’ve never mentioned them before. Is his family poor?” Celia asked.
Layla blinked, caught off guard by the sudden change of topic.
Layla thought, ‘Poor? November’s family?
‘No way. There’s no one in the whole universe richer than his family!’
But she couldn’t tell Celia the truth right now, and honestly, she had no clue how long things with November would even last.
So she just said softly, “November’s background is a bit unusual, and he’s pretty private about it. Celia, maybe don’t bring it up with him?”
Celia instantly pictured a poor kid, ignored by his parents, fighting his way up, finally making it to Imperial Academy, but always feeling awkward and self-conscious because bf where he be
‘No wonder he always wears that mask!’ Celia
Successfully unlocked!
Celia nodded solemnly and told Layla, “Layla, you’ve got to treat him well. He’s had it rough.”

Layla blinked, a big question mark forming in her mind. Layla mused, ‘Seriously, what’s so tough about November’s life?
‘Sure, he’s got a temper and totally loses it during rut, but November is basically the war god everyone on Alpha Prime worships!’
Still, Layla knew better than to spill November’s secrets to Celia, especially with other people listening in on the aero-vehicle, so she quickly switched the topic.
Once the aero-vehicle arrived, Layla and the others got assigned to a few rooms. After making sure Celia and the kids were settled in, Layla texted November.
Layla: [Where are you? How’s everything going?]
November: [Almost done. Just wait for me in the lounge. I’ll come find you when I’m finished. Kiss]
Zee just tossed the Kiss emoji in on his own.
Atlas just raised an eyebrow at it, but let it slide.
He set his optical computer down and looked up, and his expression instantly turned icy and ruthless.
After glancing over the corpses, he turned to the silver-haired man and asked, “Andrew, what killed these people?”
Andrew pushed up his silver-rimmed glasses. “They committed suicide by poison.
“The toxin was hidden in their bodies, and under certain conditions, it gets activated, and then it kills them. But what I can’t figure out is why they all died at the exact same time.”
Roger looked genuinely confused. “Did they have some secret way to contact each other and then all go GG together or something?”
Andrew gave him a speechless look. “They were locked up in different places, and their optical computers were confiscated. How would they even talk to each other?”
“Seriously, what the hell is up with that? These rebels are just the worst!” Roger complained.
Atlas walked over to the bodies, where Weston was busy scanning them with some kind of device.
Atlas narrowed his eyes. “You looking for proof they’re not rebels?”
“They’re all shifters,” Weston replied.
“Obviously. Shifters are the strongest fighters. Only idiots would recruit pure-bloods,” Atlas scoffed.
Weston looked up, his face stern. “I’m pure-blood, and I know for a fact there are plenty of pure-bloods in the rebels. Hell, I even heard the rebel leader’s wife is a pure-blood!
“So listen up, I’m telling you again, these bodies here? They’re not rebels.”
Atlas’s eyes narrowed, a cold fury flickering within. “Weston, you really think I wouldn’t kill you? Just being a rebel is reason enough for me to take you out.”
“If you did, how would you explain it to Layla? Seriously, Alpha Prime isn’t even yours. Why are you going all out for it?” Weston knew Atlas too well. November might look terrifying, but it was mostly for show.
Atlas, the war god, never spilled innocent blood.
Just then, the strange device in Weston’s hand suddenly started beeping!
Roger, standing nearby, nearly jumped out of his skin. “Holy crap! What the hell is that?”
Weston looked up, all business. “Can I borrow a scalpel?”
“What are you gonna do?” Atlas asked.
“There’s a tiny device inside this shifter!” Weston replied.
Andrew, the military doctor, shot Atlas a look for permission. Orice Atlas nodded, Andrew handed Weston the scalpel and jumped in to help cut the body open.
A few minutes later, they dug out a busted device from the dead shifter’s body.
Andrew was stunned. “What the hell is this? How did I miss it before?”
“Your basic medical gear can’t hold a candle to my machine! Listen up, this thing can carry poison, and it can scramble someone’s brain, too!” Weston said.
Atlas’s eyes suddenly lit up. He said to Andrew, “Check the other bodies. See if they’ve got one of these things, too.”

Meanwhile, Layla had settled Celia and the kids in, but November was still busy and hadn’t returned yet.
So she figured she’d go check on Annie.
After Annie told Layla which room she was in, Layla headed down the long hallway to find her.
The base was pretty old. Some of the metal was rusty, and the glass walls were hazy with dust.
Layla was still wondering why Weston was so sure these people weren’t rebels.
But the very next moment, Layla suddenly sensed that something wasn’t right.
‘Someone is following me?’ Layla wondered.
