“I didn’t see anything! You two just carry on, don’t mind me!” Weston called out

He glanced at the two making out, then quickly turned and slipped out, even helpfully shutting the door behind him.

Layla was speechless.

Well, that totally killed the mood, Layla thought.

Atlas narrowed his eyes with a dangerous glint and thought, ‘One of these days, when Layla’s not paying attention, I’m gonna chuck Weston straight into a black hole.

Three days later, the group set out and returned to Alpha Prime.

Randall, as one of Atlas’s top soldiers, of course, had to head out with the rest. Annie glanced around at the place she’d called home for a while, and couldn’t help feeling a little reluctant to leave.

Layla sighed, “Running away won’t help. Sooner or later, you have to face it.”

Annie looked totally out of it, like a cat that’s lost its spark. ‘Now I finally get why Randall’s mom completely broke off with her family. We just can’t talk sense into them.

‘I messed up Branden pretty badly last time, and now the Marshall family is probably blaming the Knight family for everything. Who knows what kind of mess the Knight family is in now?

“Layla, can you help me get the scoop on what’s happening with my family? Otherwise, I don’t even dare show my face.”

She didn’t even dare set foot on campus.

Honestly, Layla was stumped about who she could even ask. She’d already split from the Sullivan family. Back when she was living with them, none of those high-society types ever bothered to get close to her because she was just the adopted kid, after all.

‘Nolan? Yeah, he probably knows what’s up. Honestly, I always thought he was a pretty good guy. Too bad I never really got to know him since I used to hate you. Tsk, I almost became your sister-in-law, Layla, Annie teased.

Layla couldn’t help rolling her eyes. This cat has no filter at all,’ she thought. Then, she said, “Aren’t you worried Randall might hear you?”

Annie instantly got all jittery, darting her eyes around. Only after making sure Randall was nowhere in sight did she finally

relax.

She mumbled under her breath, “I was just joking, really. Randall is not the jealous type anyway. Oh, Layla, if you were hanging out with another guy, would Atlas get jealous?”

Layla paused, thinking back. She thought, ‘Actually, he gets super jealous. Like, crazy jealous.

‘But that’s just November. As soon as his rut ends, it’s like Atlas forgets he even has a wife.

Layla couldn’t help but think her marriage was even more of a mess than Annie’s.

The ship was about to touch down at Alpha Prime Spaceport. The stellar rangers were all getting ready to disembark. Before Layla could even react, Atlas suddenly grabbed her and pulled her into a room, shutting the door behind them.

Then, his lips crashed down on hers in a fierce, passionate kiss.

Atlas’s kiss was even more domineering than usual. Layla could only let him take the lead, a flicker of confusion crossing her mind, but it was quickly swept away by the intensity of the kiss, leaving her thoughts a total mess.

‘It’s that same vibe again. Is Atlas even clingier than usual during his rut this time? Layla thought.

When the kiss finally ended, they stayed close, their foreheads pressed together.

“Layla, you know, Celia and the kids could move into my estate. It’s your home, too,’ Atlas murmured.

Layla shook her head. “No, that wouldn’t work. It’d be a hassle for you, and with so many people moving in, everyone would be watching us.

She really didn’t want the Wastelands-9 Orpha Successfully unlocked!me’s scrutiny.

Atlas nodded. “Alright, I’ll have Andrew take you guys somewhere is any has got a place you can use, and you don’t need to worry about rent. Just let Celia and the kids get comfortable there for now.”

Atlas shook his head. “Come on, Layla, don’t thank me. You’re making it sound like we’re not family”

Seeing Atlas pouting, Layla couldn’t help but smile. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him lightly “You’ve got a ton of work to handle, so don’t work yourself to death, alright? Take care of yourself.”

Atlas said, “Layla, you really do care about me!”

“If you can’t finish all that work at once, just hand it over to your other self for a while,” Layla added

Atlas’s smile froze for a second. He thought,’Hand it over to who?

‘Wait, is Layla saying November shouldn’t overwork and just let Atlas handle everything?”

For a moment, Atlas honestly didn’t know if he should be jealous of himself or just annoyed with himself.

Layla didn’t notice Atlas’s brief awkwardness. They couldn’t just keep being all lovey-dovey in here, so she was about to nudge him and say it was time to head out. Suddenly, Atlas tightened his grip around her waist and pulled her in for another kiss.

When they finally got off the ship, Roger and the others couldn’t help but notice that Atlas looked seriously pissed off. They wondered, ‘Is he still fuming about what happened this time?

‘But if there really is some powerful force pulling strings behind the scenes, and constantly stirring up trouble between Alpha Prime and the rebels, honestly, that would piss anyone off.

When Atlas was in a bad mood, he was scary as hell.

So Roger hung back a few steps and fell beside Nicholas, whispering, “Man, I’m so jealous of Andrew. He doesn’t have to get the cold shoulder from His Highness the whole way.”

Nicholas gave him a deadpan look. “Should I snitch to Your Highness about that?”

Roger’s eyes went wide. “Don’t you dare! Friendship over!”

“We were never friends,” Nicholas replied flatly.

“You’re such a heartless mech engineer!” Roger whined.

Meanwhile, Andrew, the one Roger was so jealous of, had his long silver hair pulled up in a high ponytail. He looked so gorgeous that everyone couldn’t even tell if he was a guy or a girl. It reminded Layla of her teammate Alex.

Andrew turned to her. “Why are you staring at me?”

“Colonel, you really remind me of my teammate Alex,” Layla said.

“Oh, you mean Alex? That kid is my nephew, but he’s got a real attitude. Honestly, I’m surprised he even managed to get himself a team,” Andrew said.

Layla couldn’t help thinking, ‘Guess they’re not exactly close as family.’

But Andrew was clearly interested and kept saying, “Alex always got teased for being too pretty as a kid.

“He was supposed to go into medicine, but when it came time to apply to Imperial Academy, he ditched that and signed up for the trooper track at the last second.

“Alex swears that anyone who calls him pretty is getting decked!” Andrew looked up with a grin.

Layla’s lips twitched. Yeah, that was totally Alex.

Layla couldn’t help but wonder, ‘But what if Alex ever meets someone he actually likes?

‘If that person tells him he’s good-looking, would he really punch them out, too?

‘If that’s how he is, Alex might just end up single for life.!

The kids from the Wastelands 9 Orphan Core were all visiting Alpha Prime for the first time, and they were super curious. A bunch of little munchkins pressed their faces against the aero-vehicle’s windows, staring down at the city below.

“Whoa, that building is so tall! Does it have, like, a hundred floors or something?” one of the kids exclaimed

“Is that a mech suit? That’s so cool! It can run in mid-airl”

“Is that place selling cotton candy? The whole cloud looks like cotton candy!”

“Look, there’s someone just flying up there in the sky all by themselves!”

Liam was just as amazed as everyone else, but he was the big kid here. No way was he going to act all wide-eyed and clueless like his younger siblings.

‘We’re totally embarrassing Layla if she sees us like this!’ Liam thought.

He was just about to tell his siblings to chill out and stop embarrassing themselves when he suddenly looked up and spotted a massive screen floating in the sky. The person on it looked kind of familiar.

Liam blurted out, “Hey, why is November up on the big screen?!”
