Chapter 109 That Is Atlas And Not November
Chapter 109 That Is Atlas And Not November
When November first showed up at the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, the kids were all scared of him.
He wore a cold mask, and his presence was just overwhelming.
But once they saw how amazing he was at piloting mech suits, the kids were instantly in awe of him.
Especially Liam, who was a bit older and totally obsessed with mech suits. He instantly became even more of a fan of November.
Now, when Liam spotted Atlas on the electronic screen outside, he instantly got all excited.
Some other kids crowded around, too, and as soon as they saw it, one of them blurted out, “Liam, you’re lying! That’s not
November!”
“Yeah, November always wears a mask! This guy doesn’t have one!” another kid chimed in.
Celia glanced at the screen, then at the caption next to it, and quickly said to the kids, “Don’t say that! That’s Prince Atlas, the war god of Alpha Prime!”
“But they look very similar,” one of the kids protested.
“Oh, sweetie, looking similar doesn’t mean they’re the same person,” Celia explained gently.
Layla listened the whole time with her heart racing, but thankfully, Celia didn’t get suspicious, and the kids didn’t seem to think much of it either.
She looked up and saw Andrew watching her closely.
Andrew studied her for a while before going quiet. He was ridiculously good-looking, but unlike Alex, who was a hot- tempered beauty, Andrew was the cold and distant type.
Atlas had three trusted adjutants: Roger, Nicholas, and the one standing before her now, Andrew.
Roger was just too talkative. Compared to him, both Nicholas and Andrew were the strong, silent types.
Sure enough, Andrew stayed silent the whole way. After helping Layla get Celia and the others settled in and setting up the new gate system, he said goodbye to Layla.
“I’m heading back to Military Command. If you need anything, just call me. Oh, the security system here has been upgraded, so it’s totally safe now,” Andrew said.
“Thanks, Colonel Gill. What’s the rent for a year? I’ll just send it to you,” Layla said.
It was a five-story apartment, with a lobby, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor. The place used to belong to a merchant, but after his family moved out, it had just been sitting empty.
The merchant was one of Andrew’s relatives, so Andrew helped arrange the rental.
Andrew shook his head. “You don’t need to pay me anything. Atlas already paid the rent. And don’t worry, I won’t mention it
to them.”
Andrew was sharp. He could tell Layla hadn’t told Celia and the others the real story.
He’d only just found out about it himself, but unlike Roger, who would’ve been chattering nonstop, Andrew stayed cool and collected.
Andrew thought, ‘Atlas is already in his twenties, so it is only natural for him to get married.
‘As for why he keeps it under wraps, that is his own business. As a subordinate, it isn’t my place to pry.’
“I’ve got to go. If you need anything with the house, just call me,” Andrew said as he handed Layla his contact info and headed out.
Layla realized that Andrew, just like Roger, knew November and Atlas were one and the same.
And both Andrew and Roger were totally loyal to Prince Atlas.
After getting Celia and the others settled in, Layla finally let out a sigh of relief. But then she suddenly felt like she’d forgotten something.
She turned around and saw Annie, as a cat, perched on a wooden hench in the little garden, eyes half-closed as she soaked up the sun, looking all mopey.

When Annie saw Layla coming over, she looked up with use piy, picauimy eyes and said, “Layla, Randall has gone back to Military Command. I don’t want to go home. I can’t go back to school for now. Can you let me stay with you?”

Layla hesitated for a moment. “Randall just left for Military Command without telling you anything?”
“He asked me to stay at his place, but I don’t want to. Even though we’re technically married now, it just feels weird to move in all of a sudden,” Annie said.
Annie had her own sense of pride.
She wanted to be with Randall, not just accept the marriage her family had arranged for her.
But that didn’t mean she’d drop everything and be with Randall without caring about anything else.
Layla thought for a moment and nodded. “There’s still a room here, so you can stay for now. But you can’t hide forever, and school starts in a couple of days.”
“Yeah, I know. I’ll head back to school as soon as it starts,” Annie replied.
Layla nodded, but she knew she’d have to head back to school early since she still had to finish that job for her client, that November on the forum.
Thinking about the schedule, most of the mech suit parts should’ve already arrived at the academy by now.
“Oh, by the way, Annie, I texted Nolan about what’s going on with your family. He hasn’t gotten back to me yet. Probably just caught up with something. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear from him,” Layla said.
“Okay!” Annie replied.
“Could you mind keeping an eye on Celia and the others for me for a couple of days?” Layla asked.
“No trouble at all! It’s the least I can do, since I’m crashing at your place,” Annie replied.
Layla nodded, checked in with Celia one last time, then left the apartment and hopped on a public aero-vehicle back to the Imperial Academy.
Since it wasn’t officially the start of the semester yet, the campus was pretty quiet. When Layla got back to her dorm, she saw that most of the parts had arrived. She grabbed all the stuff and made her way to the mech suit lab.
There was no one in the mech suit lab, either. After scanning in with her optical computer, Layla actually ran into Chaim.
Layla walked straight over, but to her surprise, Chaim came over to meet her.
“Layla, did you hear that Tomas got hurt?” Chaim asked.
Layla hadn’t heard the details, but she could pretty much figure it out.
That night, the Crown Squad and their crew went to provoke the real rebels, and on Christmas Eve, they ended up brawling like crazy right above the orphanage.
But in the end, the rebels let them off the hook.
Tomas must’ve gotten hurt during all that chaos.
But none of that had anything to do with Layla.
Layla shook her head. “I don’t know.”
“Figures. You always have your head in the sand. Why don’t you go check on Tomas?” Chaim said.
“No way. We’re not even close,” Layla replied, then walked straight into a lab and shut the door behind her.
Mech students always locked the door when doing experiments. Nobody else could enter except for the faculty in charge
of the lab.
This kept them from getting interrupted while building their mech suit.
Layla lost herself in designing the mech, but every so often, she couldn’t help but notice how the school lab just didn’t have the equipment she really needed.
She thought, ‘Nothing beats Atlas’s basement lab.
‘If only she could use it. But that is out of the question.’
Before she knew it, most of the mech suit was already done. The tricky part now was perfecting the inner workings. Three hours had flown by in a blink.
Layla packed up the unfinished mech suit and her stuff, planning to grab a bite at the cafeteria.
But as she powered up her optical computer, it suddenly hit her. Nolan still hadn’t replied to her message, even after all this time.
‘Is he out on a mission or something?’ Layla wondered.

Layla opened the door, and to her surprise, Chaim was still waiting outside, with Kierra right there beside him.
She kept her face blank as she started to head out.
Kierra stepped forward, holding out a hand to stop her.
Layla raised an eyebrow. “Is this about Annie? I have nothing to tell you.”
“Let’s talk about Annie later. I actually came to ask if you could go check on Tomas, Kierra said.
‘Seriously, Tomas again? Layla thought.
