Chapter 116 Is A Longer Rut Better?

Chapter 116 Is A Longer Rut Better?

Layla had also wondered why Atlas’s rut lasted so long this time.

After thinking it over, she sent a message to Reyna.

Layla: [Reyna, is it normal for someone’s rut to keep getting longer? Should I be worried?]

Reyna: [As long as his mate stays by his side, that’s all that matters. As for why his rut keeps getting longer, a shifter’s body is constantly evolving.]

Reyna: [He’s searching for the optimal state and way to live.]

Reyna: [Besides, for his mate, this is actually a blessing.]

Layla was speechless.

Meanwhile, Reyna set down her optical computer and turned to Roger, who was eating with her. “Atlas must really care about Layla. He’s even pretending to be in a rut just to spend more time with her.”

Roger stared for a few seconds, then nervously glanced around and whispered, “For real? But babe, if we know what’s good for us, we’d better keep this to ourselves!”

“Of course,” Reyna said.

Meanwhile, Layla stared at the message on her optical computer, totally stunned.

She thought, ‘Yeah, right, good for the mate, my ass!

‘Which normal mate could even survive this?’

“Layla, you’re here!” Annie’s voice snapped Layla out of her thoughts.

Annie hurriedly pulled Layla inside, looking around like she was hiding from someone.

Layla couldn’t help but smirk. “Why are you acting so sneaky? Did your family come looking for you?”

“No, it’s not my family. I heard your genetic compatibility with Tomas is a crazy 96%! That’s basically a match made in heaven! If they find out, they’ll probably drag you off to calm Tomas down!” Annie blurted out.

Layla said lightly, “I already ran into the Coffey family at the hospital.”

“What?!” Annie blurted out.

“I turned them down flat. And honestly, 96% isn’t that impressive,” Layla said, and her ears turned a little red as she lowered her gaze. “November and I are a perfect 100% match.”

“Whoa!” Annie exclaimed.

A 100% genetic match is practically unheard of. It’s a once-in-a-century thing.

Annie’s cat ears pricked straight up in shock.

“Next to that, 96% is nothing. But Layla, your future kids are gonna be legendary!” Annie exclaimed.

Layla froze for a few seconds.

She glanced down at her flat stomach, then quickly shook her head.

Layla thought, ‘Kids? Seriously? For all I know, we could be divorced in a few months!

‘Annie, a crazy cat, almost had me losing my mind!’

As Layla walked in, she said, “I wonder if Celia and the others are settling in here.”

Annie nodded. “They are, but Celia keeps griping about how expensive everything is on Alpha Prime, She’s too stingy to buy anything unless it’s absolutely necessary.”

Layla understood. Celia had always been thrifty, just so she could take care of all those kids without families.

Layla spotted Celia out in the yard, planting potatoes with a few of the older kids.

“Celia, you’re still recovering. You shouldn’t be working so hard!” I avla said already moving to help her inside before Celia could protest.

Successfully unlocked!

Celia smiled softly. “It’s really not hard work. The land would just go to waste otherwise, and have you seen how pricey potatoes are online here on Alpha Prime?”

“Celia, I told you before. I’m majoring in mech suits, and my side jobs pay pretty well, Layla said.

“Silly girl, money doesn’t grow on trees. You work hard for every credit you earn. If we can pinch a few pennies, it takes some of the weight off your shoulders, Celia replied.

“Just listen to me!” Layla insisted.

Layla hopped onto Alpha Prime’s online market and went on a shopping spree, loading up on every kind of fruit, veggie, and meat she could find.

She also ordered a bunch of premium bio-engineered gel.

These high-grade gels were crucial, not just for helping Celia recover, but also for making sure the younger kids grew up healthy and strong.

Besides the housekeeping robots, Layla also found a nanny online who’s got tons of experience looking after kids.

“Great, she’s got time this afternoon and will swing by to see if she’s a good match,” Layla said.

Celia was stunned. “Hiring someone must cost a ton! Layla, you work so hard for your money. You can’t just blow it all like

this!”

Honestly, all that shopping and hiring a nanny was less than one percent of what Layla made from selling a single mech suit blueprint.

“Celia, don’t worry. I’ve got plenty of money,” Layla said.

The more Layla brushed it off, the more anxious Celia got. Her lips even started to quiver.

“Layla, are you mixed up in something shady? Or did someone trick you?” Celia asked.

“No,” Layla replied.

“Wait, did you get involved with some loser? Layla, Ninth is a good kid. Don’t go breaking his heart!” Celia said.

Layla was speechless.
