Chapter 158 Be With Atlas During His Rut
Nolan’s eyes narrowed sharply. He looked up at Xanthe, a mix of shock and anger flashing across his face. “What nonsense are you spouting?” Nolan snapped.
Xanthe put on a look of regret. “Nolan, honestly, this is all my fault. If I hadn’t been so extreme when I first came back, maybe Layla wouldn’t have left.
“She wouldn’t have married November, and you two could’ve ended up together. It’s all on me.”
“Stop talking nonsense. I only see Layla as a sister,” Nolan snapped.
“Oh? Then why are you getting so worked up?” Xanthe shot back.
Nolan was left speechless.
Just then, Harper walked in. Xanthe dropped the topic, but she knew that by nudging Nolan a bit, he’d finally confront his feelings for Layla sooner, and everything would come to a head much faster.
She didn’t want him to keep being that guy, the supporting male lead who’s always working behind the scenes for Layla, but never lets her see how much he really cares.

Layla and November headed back to school, getting ready for their trip in two days. November asked where she wanted to go, but Layla wasn’t sure.
There were plenty of tourist planets nearby, but except for traveling to other planets with her family before, she’d never really gone anywhere just for fun.
“I’ll have Zee look up some fun places,” November said.
“Alright,” November replied without hesitation.
Layla was still a bit distracted. She glanced at her optical computer, rereading the last conversation she’d had with her father.
She bit her lip. ‘We managed to avoid a fight this time, but what about next time?’ she wondered.
November could see Layla was lost in thought, and after what happened at the hospital, he suddenly said, “How about I take you to Meridia for a trip? We can even try to find that relative of mine while we’re there.”
Layla’s eyes lit up. “Sure.”
Meridia was pretty far from Alpha Prime. It would take a ten-hour spaceflight, plus a jump through hyperspace.
So, two days was cutting it close. But that wasn’t a big deal. They could just take some time off. Layla didn’t forget to text Weston, her mentor.
Weston: [Yeah, the farther away you are, the less chance he’ll be able to show up in time if anything goes down.] Layla: [Weston, you’re just there to help people, right? You’re not going to hurt any innocent bystanders, are you?] Layla didn’t really care about Alpha Prime itself; she just thought that no matter what, regular people shouldn’t get hurt in the middle of all this.
Weston: [Ordinary folks won’t get hurt, but there might be some damage at Alpha Prime Prison. That’s kind of unavoidable, so don’t overthink it, Layla.]
Putting her optical computer down, Layla turned to November. “I’ll take tomorrow off. Let’s make it a longer trip and have some extra fun together?”
“Sounds great,” November replied.
Getting time off was easy. Before hopping on the spaceship, Layla swung by the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core. When Celia heard she was heading to Meridia with November, she gave her a gentle smile.
Celia said, “You really need a break. Go have fun and don’t worry about us. Lynn’s always around, and Annie drops in all the time. By the way, are you bringing November’s mom along?”
“No, she’s sitting this one out,” Layla replied.
“Alright, then tell her to come visit the orphanage whenever she has time” Celia sighed. “She doesn’t say much, but you can just feel how lonely she is.”

Leilani came from another planet, with barely any any of us here. Her husband was gone, and her son had his own life and family. Celia felt a pang of sympathy for Leilani.

Layla understood, and she really felt for Leilani, too. She nodded. “I’ll let her know”
Of course, they told Leilani about their trip to Meridia, but she just couldn’t make the trip.
Every time she left the palace to visit the orphanage, it was a huge hassle. She had to be super careful, always worried someone might spot her.
Leilani said wistfully, “You know, it’s been ages since I last went back to Meridia. It’s good for you two to get away and relax Oh, and you should check out the Abyss. The scenery there is beautiful.”
November’s mouth twitched. “Mom, isn’t that the place where those star-crossed mermaid couples supposedly died together?”
Leilani just laughed. “What are you so worried about? You two are married, not just some couple. And besides, you’re not even merfolk.”
November was speechless.
Layla kept quiet, but the corners of her mouth lifted. She genuinely liked Leilani. She had no airs at all and always spoke her mind.
Layla thought to herself, ‘If only she weren’t the queen…’
Once everything was ready, they hopped aboard the spaceship that night. If all went according to plan, they’d touch down on Meridia right at sunrise the next morning.
After a few hours of snooping around, Dizzy and the crew confirmed that Atlas had left Alpha Prime for personal reasons. The crucial thing was that the earliest he could possibly return would be in two days.
“This is the perfect chance to rescue November,” someone exclaimed.
The rebels started making their move, but Weston wasn’t needed for the rescue mission, so he was basically just hanging around with nothing to do.
Melanie said to him, “Didn’t you say you wanted to find Layla and work on some mech suit together? Go ahead and look for her.
“Once we get November out, we’ll probably have to make a quick getaway, so we won’t be able to meet up with you.”
“Alright, you guys go do your thing. Don’t worry about me. I know this place like the back of my hand. It’s better if we split up,” Weston replied.
Melanie nodded, didn’t say anything else, and walked off.
Weston was just cruising around Alpha Prime in his aero-vehicle, taking it easy. As for tracking down Layla, she’d already led Atlas away to help them out. So, nowhere was he even supposed to start looking for her.
Ever since Layla learned the truth about her father, there had been a heavy burden weighing on her mind. She’d often find herself lost in thought, gazing out the window.
November leaned in, his handsome face close. “Layla, aren’t you happy to be out here having fun?”
Layla looked at November. She couldn’t help but feel a little guilty toward him.
“I’m happy, I just hope I’m not holding you up or messing with your plans,” Layla said, a little uncertain.
“Not at all. Unless there’s an enemy invasion or something, I’m not busy, Honestly, I haven’t had a real vacation in ages,” November replied.
Layla blinked in surprise. “You haven’t had a vacation in years?”
November gave a small, sad nod. “Yeah, I never really had anyone to hang out with. The only thing I ever did was go see my mom at the palace.
“And even that was only allowed after I turned twelve. Before that, I could only see her twice a year, once for the holidays and once on my birthday.”
Layla’s heart ached for November and his mom. She squeezed his hand and said, “You don’t have to keep pushing yourself so hard. If you want to rest, just do it.”
“Then I’ll start taking more days off to hang out with you.” November grinned.
“You don’t have to go overboard with the time off, but don’t run yourself ragged either,” Layla replied softly.
After chatting for a while, they both felt a bit tired from staying in the cabin, so they decided to get out and take a walk. As soon as they stepped out, they came face to face with Angelina, who was surrounded by a group of people.
Angelina hadn’t been happy lately. She’d finally married Krish, just like she’d always dreamed, but his three other wives were

anything but easy to get along with.
Each of them had powerful noble families backing them, and every single one was watching the Crown Princess with hungry wolves. And that was just the beginning of her troubles.
When Angelina became the fourth wife, she’d already steeled herself for the battle. She knew she’d have to fight the other three for the top spot.
But just when she thought all she had to worry about were those three women, out of nowhere, Xanthe showed up as yet another rival.
And to make things even messier, both Layla and Xanthe were from the same family.
To top it all off, Atlas had even given Angelina a hard time before, all because of Layla.
Seeing Layla now, old and new grudges flared up inside Angelina. She gave Layla a dark look, then her eyes landed on the masked November standing right next to her.
She suddenly laughed coldly. “You’re November, right? I heard you’re always doing Atlas’s bidding, but do you even know your wife was with him during his rut?” Angelina smirked.
