Chapter 159
Chapter 159
Angelina’s words were a real dagger to the heart.
She was calling Layla out for stepping out on November, and she did it right to his face.
Angelina had the guts to say it because her status had changed. She was now Krish’s wife.
Plus, she was still holding a grudge against Atlas for beating her up before. She didn’t dare go after him, so she decided to target Layla instead.
Even if Layla hadn’t been kicked out of the Sullivan family, Angelina wouldn’t have been scared. Now that Layla was out, she was even less worried.
Angelina had also heard that November, Layla’s partner, was insanely possessive and super jealous.
‘Isn’t he always riding Prince Atlas’s coattails?’ Angelina thought. ‘If he finds out his wife hooked up with Atlas, what’s he gonna do? Either he’ll just suck it up, or maybe he’ll stop being Atlas’s lackey
Angelina suddenly felt like she was a genius. She was hitting multiple birds with one stone here.
Angelina smirked at Layla and November, looking all kinds of pleased with herself.
Layla’s mouth twitched. She glanced over at November, who was still wearing his mask. His gaze was steady, not even a flicker of emotion; Angelina’s words didn’t bother him one bit.
He took Layla’s hand and said, “Layla, let’s go check out the view over there. We should be able to spot a firestar; it’s gorgeous from afar.”
“Sure,” Layla said.
The two of them walked off, hand in hand.
Angelina was left speechless. ‘Wait, that’s all?’ she thought.
As Layla and November walked away, Layla whispered, “Do you think she’s guessed your real identity?”
“Doesn’t matter,” November replied.
“Honestly, when we were at your house, I figured she must’ve known I helped you through your rut. But why didn’t she tell Prince Krish?” Layla said quietly.
November didn’t want to talk about Angelina. He used to let things go before, but now she’s gotten really shady and even tried to mess with him during his rut. Most importantly, she’s totally working for Krish now.
He wasn’t after power, but he wasn’t dumb either. If he started cozying up to Krish’s crew now, he’d be naive as hell.
November let out a cold snort. He said, “Who knows? Maybe she’s just too embarrassed to let Krish know she almost chose me instead.”
Layla didn’t say anything right away.
November caught himself and quickly said, “Layla, don’t worry. There’s nothing going on between her and me.”
“You said you two were childhood friends, and you used to call her like you were close,” Layla said.
November explained, “Childhood friends? That just means anyone who grew up together. If that’s the case, there’d be countless childhood friends across the universe. And what about your buddies from Wastelands-9 Orphan Core? You all

grew up together, too. Does that make you childhood friends?”
November kept going, then with a teasing grin, he said, “I’m yours, Layla. My heart, my nine tails, all yours. If I ever cheat on you, may a black hole suck me in.”
“Okay, that’s not what I meant, I,” Layla said, but her words faltered. She realized her excuse was pretty flimsy; she really was a little jealous after all.
November looked at her, eyes shining. He said with a soft smile, “But Layla, honestly, it makes me happy to know you’re jealous of me.”
Layla just stared at him, lost for words.
She felt a bit helpless, but was surprised to find herself caring about November more than ever.
They watched the firestar for a while, then headed back to their cabin to rest. After a night’s sleep, they arrived at Meridia just as dawn broke.
As they stepped off the spaceship, they ran into Angelina again.
Angelina was from Meridia, too. Even though she wasn’t officially the wife of Krish yet, her marriage to Krish had skyrocketed the Logan family’s status on Meridia.
Now, the Logan family was even starting to challenge the royal Clark family on Meridia.
Layla whispered to November, asking if they should stop by the Clark family. November shook his head.
“No need. Back when they sold out my mother just to keep Meridia safe, and chose Alpha Prime over us, I was done with the Clark family,” November said.
For a family that’s already fallen from grace, even without the Logans in the picture, some other clan would’ve stepped up to replace them eventually.
“Let’s go, Layla. Let’s find a place to stay first, then I’ll ask my elder when she’s free,” November said.
“Okay,” Layla replied.
Layla had never set foot on Meridia before, and everything looked so fresh and amazing. The scenery was stunning, with shells and coral used as decorations everywhere.
Most folks on Meridia were merfolk shifters, with finned ears, delicate features, and vivid, multicolored hair that really stood
out.
Layla couldn’t help but think of how stunning Leilani was, and she said, ‘People from Meridia are seriously gorgeous.
November said, “What’s the use of being pretty if you just hide whenever things get tough? If they weren’t so helpless, they wouldn’t have had to beg Alpha Prime for help.”
Layla shot a nervous look around and hurriedly dragged November away, worried they’d get jumped if they lingered.
She whispered, “November, be careful with your words. We’re outsiders here; that kind of talk could get us in trouble.”
“Don’t worry, Layla. None of them could ever take me on,” November said with a cocky grin.
Layla was speechless.
She knew that low profile wasn’t even in November’s vocabulary, especially when he was in a rut; he just did whatever he
wanted.

But she really didn’t want any trouble. All she wanted was to enjoy the trip, and if November’s relative was willing to help out with Nolan, that’d be perfect.
“Where are we staying?” Layla asked.
“My mother owns a house. It’s usually empty. Ms. Lowe, Mollie’s aunt, cares for it. After Mollie’s parents died, Mother brought her to Alpha Prime. Ms. Lowe chose to stay in Meridia to maintain the house,” November explained.
Even though November kept it short, Layla could sense there were all kinds of secrets buried in that family. She let out a quiet sigh and said, “Royal families really are complicated.”
November froze for a second.
‘Maybe that’s why Layla’s always been so reluctant about marrying into my family,’ he thought.
He squeezed Layla’s hand and said, “Once Krish takes the throne, I’ll resign as commander and take you and my mother away from Alpha Prime. Would you like that?”
That was so November.
Layla didn’t overthink it. She just figured November was being a bit sentimental right now. She said, “We’ll deal with all that when the time comes.”
For November to completely let go of his identity as Prince Atlas wasn’t going to be easy.
And for Leilani to walk away from the palace for good was no walk in the park either.
On top of that, Layla still had no idea if her real father and his crew were just a bunch of ruthless rebels or not.
With so many problems piling up in front of them, all Layla could do was say, “We’ll deal with it when the time comes.”
November knew there was no rushing this. As they talked, they stepped off the aero-vehicle and arrived at Leilani’s old estate on Meridia.
The place had its own private courtyard. It wasn’t as big as November’s mansion, but the location was great, and the house itself was really pretty.
Before she got married, Leilani used to live here.
But right now, there was a crowd gathered at the front gate, more specifically, a bunch of people were surrounding an elderly merfolk woman.
The leader, a young blond guy, smirked and said, “Mrs. Lowe, this place is huge and just sitting empty. We just want to go in, throw a party, and have some fun. Is there really any need for you to keep stopping us?”
