Chapter 176

Chapter 176

Layla didn’t mean to upset them. She just didn’t want her father and the others to use her connection with November against him.

Even though Layla didn’t want to admit it, she really had fallen for November.

In the end, the signal from Daniel’s side was cut off. He probably took the blow too hard.

With some time on her hands, Layla kept busy renovating and customizing her mech suit lab. She also picked up a bunch of supplies online.

It had been ages since she last logged into the mech suit forum. After finishing up, Layla settled onto the couch, coffee in hand, and logged in.

Layla saw a private message pop up; someone wanted her to take them on as a mentor. To her surprise, it was Jayvon.

Truth be told, Layla never really liked Jayvon.

Jayvon was way too scheming and would do whatever it took to get his way, even if it meant hurting himself in the process.

Honestly, Layla would rather not have someone like him on her team.

Layla had a ton going on today, and her head was all over the place, so she really didn’t have the bandwidth to deal with Jayvon right now.

But as Layla’s eyes landed on Jayvon’s reason for wanting a mentor, her hand hovered over the close button, then stopped dead.

Jayvon: [Hello, Hades. I know you’ve got tons of people lining up to be your apprentice, and you probably wouldn’t even give me a second look, but I still really want to learn from you.]

Jayvon: [My mom and I have been bullied and oppressed by the Turner family for as long as I can remember. My only wish is to one day have the power to bring them to their knees.]

Layla stared at Jayvon’s message, stunned.

Layla had spent a few years living with the Sullivan family. So she knew all too well just how chaotic things could get in those aristocratic families.

But Layla still hadn’t made up her mind about taking Jayvon in as a disciple. Honestly, the idea of mentoring anyone had never even crossed her mind.

Just then, her optical computer beeped, and a call auto-connected.

Zaa apologized: [Sorry, Layla. This call’s from Weston. He turned on forced pickup mode. Not even 1 or Zee can stop it.]

Layla just rolled her eyes as she heard Weston’s worried voice in her ear. “Layla, are you alright? Why haven’t you been answering your calls? Did something happen? Don’t tell me Dakota grabbed you?”

Layla was speechless.

Dakota was Atlas’s father, the king of Alpha Prime.

She thought to herself, ‘Wow, Weston really has some nerve, even badmouthing His Majesty

Layla said helplessly, “Weston, seriously, I’m fine. I’ve just been swamped lately and didn’t get a chance to reply to your messages.”

Weston whined, “You didn’t even answer my calls! I freaked out after seeing all that stuff online.

“I tried calling you a bunch of times, but you never picked up, so I was desperate and had to use the forced call system. Layla, are you really going to marry Atlas?”

Layla asked, “Weston, you don’t even look surprised that November is Atlas.”

Weston was speechless. ‘Crap, I blew it!’ he wondered.

A few seconds later, Weston started to say something in a pitiful tone, but Layla cut him off before he could even finish a word.

Layla said, “Weston, you already knew November was Atlas. We can talk about that later. Right now, something huge just came up. My dad wants me to put the wedding with Atlas on hold and take him to the rebels’ base.”

Weston almost choked in shock. “Are you serious? He’s finally making a move against Atlas?”

Layla started to get anxious, too. “So they’re officially enemies now? Are they actually planning to kill Atlas?”

Weston gave his honest take. “Sure, your dad’s got a whole crowd on his side, they could try to gang up on Atlas. But Atlas is a total powerhouse; he could probably wipe out your dad’s whole base single-handedly.”

Layla was speechless. ‘Widow or orphan? No thanks. That’s not happening,’ Layla thought.

“Weston, what do you think I should do?” Layla asked.

Weston paused for a moment, then gave his number one disciple some heartfelt advice.

“Why don’t you go rough up Krish a bit first? Apparently, he tipped off His Majesty and got your relationship with Atlas exposed,” said Weston.

Not that Layla needed another reason, Krish had already used trigger agents on her before, and she’d wanted to punch him

ever since.

‘Whatever, I’ll just keep a running tab and pay him back for everything when I get the chance,’ Layla thought.

Weston was freaking out, totally at a loss for any better advice.

After a dramatic pause, he blurted out, “Layla, maybe you should just run for it?”

Layla gave him an expressionless stare. “Weston, why don’t you just get lost?”

Weston said, “Hey, I get it. There’s nowhere you can really run right now. Whatever, let’s talk about something else. That kid Jayvon hit you up on the forum, right?

“You should take him in as your apprentice. He’s had it rough. If you’ve ever met his mom, you’d know she’s been driven over the edge by the Turner family.”

Layla paused, a little surprised. She knew better than anyone that life was tough for everyone. She’d had her own share of struggles.

So just because Jayvon had it rough, Layla wasn’t about to go soft on him.

But seeing how hard he wanted to get stronger just to protect his mom, that kind of devotion really got to Layla.

Layla nodded. “Alright, I’ll take him in as my disciple, as Hades. But how far he gets in the world of mech suits, that’ll be up to his own grit.”

Weston said, “Thing is, I promised myself I wouldn’t take on any more apprentices. Back when I bumped into him in

Shadow Alley, I just told him to go ask Hades for mentorship on the forum.

“Hey, guess that makes him my grand-apprentice now.”

Layla’s eyebrows shot up. “Wait, you ran into him in Shadow Alley? Weston, don’t tell me Jayvon’s with the rebels now?”

Just how many rebels do I have in my orbit? Layla thought.
