Chapter 181

Chapter 181

Xanthe left without saying a word, her face full of frustration.

After some careful probing, Layla was finally sure that Xanthe knew a lot, but because of some kind of restriction, she wasn’t allowed to talk about it.

At the very least, she definitely couldn’t say it outright.

As for Xanthe’s motives, Layla still didn’t know the details, but she was absolutely certain Xanthe had her in her sights.

And whatever it was, it wasn’t friendly.

Xanthe was sharp, and she even played it low-key, but Layla could always tell if someone was being nice or just pretending.

Layla sat there, rubbing her temples, trying to piece together everything that had happened over the past few days.

Her wedding to Atlas was coming up fast. ‘November was clearly happy to marry her, but what about Atlas?’ she wondered.

And then there was her father. He’d called earlier, telling her not to rush into marriage. But when he found out she’d already married Atlas, he was so stunned he went silent and hung up.

He must have been pretty shaken up.

Layla glanced at her optical computer, not sure if her dad even saw her as his kid anymore.

And then there was Xanthe. She looked innocent enough and definitely knew how to play the game, but Layla just couldn’t shake off her unease.

Just then, Zaa piped up, “Layla, someone’s messing with my firewall.”

Someone had already tried to mess with Zee’s firewall before, and when Zee upgraded its software, it shared the update with

Zaa too.

Zaa and Zee had made a deal. If anyone tried to break into their firewalls again, they’d hunt down the signal together.

After all, the attacker was slippery as an eel.

Layla immediately ordered, “Contact Zee. You two track the signal together and at least figure out where they’re coming from.”

“Got it, boss,” Zaa replied.

A few minutes later, Zaa sounded a little glum. “Layla, sorry, the signal dropped again. All we could track was that the attacker was somewhere in the luxury district of Alpha Prime.”

Layla’s mind immediately went to her earlier talk with Xanthe. She said quietly, “No need to apologize. I think I know who it

is.”

She had Zaa, an insanely powerful Al assistant.

No wonder Xanthe had her own badass Al, too.

And the fact that Xanthe tried to hack into her Al just proved she was here with bad intentions, definitely not friendly at all.

Even though Layla didn’t know the whole story, she’d already pieced together most of the truth.

At that moment, Xanthe was in her room, and when she heard her system’s report, she was totally floored.

Chapter 181

“Wait, what? You tried to break into Layla’s Al, and not only did you fail, but you almost got tracked down?” Xanthe exclaimed.

“Yes,” her Al answered.

Xanthe scoffed, “Don’t you always brag about having super high-level clearance and being way more advanced than any Al here?”

The system said, “Nothing’s foolproof. I mean, people here would never in a million years imagine a soul from another world dropping in and causing chaos.”

Xanthe snapped, “You’re the one causing trouble. I’m here to save these dumb humans in this universe. These shifters are such idiots.

“They’ve evolved all these crazy powers, but instead of taking over the universe, they’re just busy scheming against each other.”

The system replied, “The big bad guy’s been lying low, waiting to take over the universe. Sounds like you two are on the same wavelength.”

Just thinking about that freak made Xanthe shudder. ‘That guy gives me the creeps, she thought.

She shook her head. “Whatever, let him rule the universe. As long as I can steal all the heroine’s luck for myself, that’s all I care about.”

The system asked, “So, what’s the plan? I bailed out quick, so they probably didn’t notice me.”

Xanthe curled her lips into a vicious smile.

She said, “I can’t stop Layla from marrying Atlas, but do you really think Daniel will just stand by and watch his daughter marry his sworn enemy?

“He and his people will definitely try to block the wedding, and when that happens, there’s bound to be a clash with Atlas.

‘That’s when I can fan the flames and cause chaos. If a few people, Layla cares about getting killed off, whether it’s Atlas or Daniel, Layla would never know peace again.

‘And the heroine’s fate would be completely rewritten, Xanthe thought.

The system said coolly, “That might work, but you don’t have the power to pull it off yet.”

Xanthe snorted, “Don’t I still have that dumb Atlas as my ally?”

The system just replied, “Oh.”

Now that Layla had figured out Xanthe was behind it, she immediately told November.

November had already picked up on it as Zee and Zaa were chasing down the signal.

He called Layla right away, “Layla, the signal vanished in the noble district. I’ve got my team looking into those families already. I’ll find out who’s behind this.”

Layla said, “Ninth, I think it’s Xanthe.”

November paused. “Who is she?”

Layla blinked for a moment before realizing. For November, Xanthe was totally off his radar.

She gave a wry laugh. “Seriously? You forgot? She was the one who tampered with my optical computer and signed me up for that genetic marriage thing.”

“Oh, right,” November said, suddenly getting it. “But she’s with Prince Atlas, and she hasn’t treated you well before, so I’m not about to be grateful to her. Layla, are you sure she’s capable of almost cracking Zee and Zaa’s firewalls?”

“I don’t have any proof,” Layla replied. “It’s just a feeling I have. It’s her.”

If anyone else had said that, November would’ve just laughed it off.

But if it was Layla saying it, that was a whole different story.

November quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, Layla. I know what to do.”

Karter and Xanthe were both on Atlas’s side, and November couldn’t stand them. He never let his guard down around those

two.

Layla knew that, so she didn’t say much, but she couldn’t help but add, “Ninth, no matter what Xanthe and Karter are plotting, Nolan definitely isn’t involved.”

November felt a little jealous hearing her stick up for another guy, but he just said, “Don’t worry, Layla. Nolan’s like my own brother. He’s nothing like Karter and those guys.

“He’s got real integrity. I trust him, or I wouldn’t have helped him keep his command in Sector Three Command.”

“Okay,” Layla replied.

Layla found his words kind of odd, but she could hear some commotion on November’s end. He must be busy. He just said. “See you tonight,” and hung up.

After hanging up with Layla, November’s expression turned serious.

Zee immediately clapped and said, “November, you’re making progress. You finally learned not to act jealous when she’s around.”

November replied coolly, “As long as I keep drilling into Layla’s head that Nolan is just her big brother, even if he confesses, she’ll only ever see him as family.

“Just sibling vibes, no romance at all. And come on, I’ve helped Nolan out so much. Does he really have the guts to go after my girl?”

Zee gave an objective review, “November, you’re acting kinda shameless right now.”
