Chapter 186
Chapter 186
Layla’s fingertips tingled from Atlas’s kiss.
The fresh, piney scent wafted through the air again.
She finally gave a helpless little sigh and whispered, “Alright, alright, we’re still on the aero-vehicle.”
“It’s fine, there’s no one else here,” Atlas said.
“Zaa and Zee are here.” Layla pointed out.
“It’s fine, they’re not people,” Atlas replied.
Zaa and Zee were speechless.
But Atlas didn’t really cross any lines, mostly because Layla got embarrassed so easily.
Besides, the aero-vehicle had already arrived at Prince Atlas’s Manor.
Since the big wedding was just around the corner, Prince Atlas’s Manor was due for a fresh makeover.
But Atlas was never a fan of having outsiders in his place, so he put Zaa and Zee in charge of the whole thing, letting them run the robots to handle the renovations.
They made dinner together again.
While they were eating, Layla asked Atlas how the investigation into that ruthless rebel group was going.
Atlas replied, “They’re seriously good at hiding. Ever since that last incident, they’ve been keeping quiet for ages. But there’s another rebel group. When we were on Meridia, they busted into Alpha Prime Prison.
“We didn’t really lose anything that time, and it looked like they were just there to break out their own people. Turns out, they only freed their own crew. They didn’t go after the really vicious rebel prisoners.”
Layla froze for a second while ladling soup, then said, “So, there are definitely two rebel groups now, right? And judging by how they act, they’re not on the same side.
“One’s got something to do with the Crown Prince, and the other, they’re not totally ruthless, they actually hold back a bit?”
“Okay,” Layla replied.
Layla watched Atlas drinking his soup, while under the table, his fluffy fox tail teasingly hooked around her ankle.
She gripped her spoon a little tighter.
‘Should I tell Atlas the truth?
‘Should I tell him that my dad is actually the leader of the other rebel group?’ Layla wondered.
Just as Layla was caught up in her dilemma, the tip of Atlas’s fluffy tail swept lightly against her calf.
He asked, “Hey, isn’t school almost out? Do you think your dad and the others will make it to our wedding?”
Layla quickly replied, “I’m not sure. The planet they’re on is pretty far from Alpha Prime.”
Atlas said, “It’s fine, I can have someone bring them over.”

“No,” Layla blurted out.
She shot up from her seat, making Atlas frown in surprise.
Layla took a few deep breaths, then quickly said, “I mean, I haven’t even met them in person yet, and our first meeting would be at my wedding.
“Last time I called my dad, he was pretty shocked and kind of mad when he found out I was getting married.”
Atlas’s blue eyes flicked over to her, and he let out a soft reply. “Makes sense. Your dad has just reconnected with you. But I’ll make sure he knows I’ll always take care of you.”
“I know, it’s just he might need some time,” Layla said.
“Oh,” Atlas replied.
Neither of them brought it up again. Later, Layla told Atlas about picking out her wedding dress at the palace today, and how Her Majesty had said Atlas didn’t need to pick out anything special. He just had to match whatever Layla chose.
Atlas’s eyes crinkled with a grin, looking totally chill as he said, “My mom’s right.”
Layla just shook her head, half laughing, half helpless.
After dinner, since finals were right around the corner, Layla had to whip up an A-Tier mech suit. But honestly, for her, it was a total breeze.
She was planning to knock out her end-of-term assignment, the A-Tier mech suit, before the wedding.
Plus, she needed to hop online with her alt account and coach her unofficial apprentice, Jayvon, for a bit.
“Ninth, go get busy in the study. I’m heading to the lab,” Layla said.
“Alright, but don’t push yourself too hard,” Atlas replied, planting a reluctant kiss on the corner of her mouth before watching her disappear toward the elevator down to the basement.
Before that, he’d already given Layla the remote for the Ares mech suit; so she could summon it whenever she wanted to experiment or look for inspiration.
He even said she could take it apart if she felt like it.
Ares was speechless.
Lucky for Ares, Layla was the creator’s descendant. Otherwise, Ares would’ve totally thrown a fit.
Atlas watched as Layla’s figure vanished behind the elevator doors, and the smile on his face slowly faded away.
Zaa was busy directing the robot to clear the table when Atlas suddenly spoke up. “Zaa, has anything been bothering Layla lately?”
Zaa answered, “No, Your Highness. There’s no one out there who could ever put my master at a disadvantage.”
Atlas frowned, “Then why did she suddenly mention disappearing before the wedding?”
Zaa fell silent.
Atlas knew Zaa was truly loyal to Layla. There were some things it simply wouldn’t reveal, no matter the circumstances.
If he really wanted to, he could just hack into Zaa’s system and see everyone Layla had talked to or met, and everything that had gone down lately.

But Atlas held back.
Because he knew that as her partner, he had to give her space.
He needed to trust her, too.
Atlas said coolly, “Alright, go on, get back to work.”
Zaa’s housekeeping bot nodded and headed off to the kitchen to tidy up.
Atlas turned and headed back to his study, burying himself in paperwork, trying not to dwell on it.
‘Maybe I’m just overthinking it.
‘Maybe Layla’s just got a case of pre-wedding jitters?’ Atlas thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Zaa rolled its robot over to Zee and said, “Zee, you messed up this time.”
Zaa’s mechanical voice stayed calm. “What’s wrong? I have to stay loyal to my master. No matter who asks, I won’t say a word, not even to Prince Atlas.”
Zee replied, “No, that’s not what I mean. I mean, why are you still calling him Prince Atlas? Everyone knows they’re together now, and the wedding’s basically a done deal. Time to call him Atlas instead.”
Zaa paused for a few seconds, then nodded. “You’re right.”
Meanwhile, totally unaware of the little drama going on in the kitchen, Layla let Ares out and had a little talk with it.
She couldn’t help herself and ended up telling Ares the truth.
Ares was stunned. “Hold on, are you saying your real father is the leader of the rebels, and he’s coming to Alpha Prime to take you away?”
“I have to go see him, and while I’m there, I want to find out if he really is Louis’s descendant. But he doesn’t approve of my wedding to Prince Atlas,” Layla said, rubbing her forehead.
She never thought things would end up like this.
Ares quickly caught on. “So, your dad doesn’t approve of your wedding and wants to take you away before it happens, but Prince Atlas has no idea?”
“Yeah,” Layla said, rubbing her forehead. “I’m not trying to hide anything from November. I’m just worried he and my dad might clash, or that my dad’s people might hurt him, or that November might end up hurting my dad.”
