Chapter 31

Seeing the name, Shayla was stunned. She looked at Layla, who simply nodded.

“Please report it upward.” Layla said.

Shayla was doubtful, but when she entered that name into the system, it actually allowed him to join the team?

The field listed next to it was clearly “Command Division”.

Layla truly had no other choice. Selections were final tomorrow, and that Jayvon Turner was clearly unreliable. She couldn’t gamble with Annie and the others’ results.

For military academy cadets, these training grades were critical.

“I can’t decide this on my own,” Shayla said seriously. “I need to request Director Hernandez’s instructions. Wait a moment.”

“Alright.” Layla agreed.

Antony knew about Atlas’s affiliated status at the military academy. “He hasn’t taken the exams or graduated.” He explained.

“Not long ago, His Highness had his adjutant handle the continuation of his studies,” he added, “Let me send His Highness a message. If he agrees, we can submit it.”

“But… wouldn’t that be unfair to other students?” Shayla asked.

“Not at all. Consider it… an early assessment by His Highness. Besides, if His Highness is willing to join this team, what does that prove? It proves this team has significant potential too.”

Shayla was taken aback. She wasn’t sure about the other team members’ potential, but she was certain about Layla.

Antony hung up and went to seek Atlas’s approval. Minutes later, Shayla received the call.

Layla’s team was confirmed. The team commander would be someone named November Clark.

“That’s his alias. He can’t use his real name.” Shayla said.

“Understood.” This was within Layla’s expectations. After thanking Shayla, she left the office and headed for Jayvon’s dorm.

Sure enough, Annie was still there, desperately trying to persuade him.

“Hey, a zero-scorer putting on airs? If we ditch you, you won’t have a team at all.”

“So be it. I’m used to zeros. But you guys… couldn’t form a team and had to crawl back to me, right? Maybe beg me?”

Chapter 31

“You want me to beg you?”

:

Annie might not be the most talented in her family, but she was the most spoiled.

Fiery temper, notoriously proud. Lowering herself to beg? Right now, she felt like scratching his face off.

Layla arrived at the doorway. “Annie. Team meeting.”

Annie paused. “Meeting? Did you find the last member?”

“All set.” Layla answered.

With that, Layla turned and left. Annie’s eyes lit up, her gloom vanishing as she hurried after her.

Jayvon, however, was dumbfounded. He had actually planned to join… he just wanted to make things difficult for Annie.

He thought about chasing them, but hesitated. Was this another one of Layla’s tricks? Playing hard to get?

So he sat back down. He waited and waited until he was practically wilting, but they never returned.

He was utterly baffled. Where on earth did they conjure another person from?

Meanwhile, Annie chattered nonstop, pestering Layla about who it was. When they reached the dorm entrance, Layla looked up and said, “Him.”

“What?!” Annie stared in shock at the handsome young man in black training clothes standing there. Had Layla really gotten her little… companion back?

Atlas’s eyes held no one else. The moment he saw Layla, his gaze sharpened, and he practically moved to her. “Star!”

Barely suppressing the urge to step back, Layla said to Annie, “I need to talk to him.”

“Oh, right. I’ll… leave you to it. I’ll go find Alex and the others about meeting at the training room tomorrow.” Annie nodded.

Once Annie left and the other two roommates weren’t back, Atlas rushed closer, but Layla sidestepped faster.

He bit his lip, looking wounded. “You’re avoiding me.”

Her tone was flat. “You might not remember your clear-headed self, but I do. When you’re sober, you’re cold. Utterly unreasonable. You made it clear you won’t divorce-you intend to keep using this marriage.”

Even if he had rushed back to help with her… issue, Layla felt no gratitude. Declaring no love, offering no care, yet refusing to let go?

If you don’t love or care, why not let go? He’d even threatened the orphanage and her brother.

He looked deeply hurt. His white, fluffy fox ears drooped. His nine tails swished restlessly, anxiously on the floor. “I’m sorry… I was wrong. How about… you punish me?”

“I wouldn’t dare. What if you seek revenge once your rut ends?” Layla answered coldly.

“I wouldn’t!” Atlas cried.

But her face showed she didn’t believe him.

The fair-skinned youth seemed on the verge of upset. He desperately wanted to close the distance but knew she was angry and didn’t dare.

The person didn’t dare get close, but his tail did.

The furry tip of a tail stealthily brushed against Layla’s palm. The scent of cedar began to slowly permeate the air.

“Rein it in,” she said coolly. “This is a dorm. I have roommates.”

“Oh.” The beautiful fox-eared boy obediently pulled his pheromones back. Feeling wronged, sad, and with his emotions already amplified during his rut.

Atlas followed his nose to Layla’s bunk. He sat there, hugging his own tails, the picture of dejection.

Seeing him like this, Layla felt a wave of helplessness. “Why did you agree to join?”

“Because you’re there.”

“And the name ‘November’?”

“That’s my mother’s maiden name.”

Layla nodded. Checking the time, she saw it was almost lights-out. “You should go.”

His eyes welled up. “You’re… kicking me out? Why?”

She was exasperated. “This is a four-person dorm. No spot for you. You have private quarters on the base. Go there.”

“I don’t remember the way.” Atlas said

“I’ll walk you.” Layla replied.

Layla found it hard to resist him in this state, especially given their history.

Yet, her heart felt heavy. She’d told herself to stay away. She absolutely could not soften because of his rut.

Along the way, he tried several times to take her hand, but she evaded each time. He thought maybe she was shy with people around.

After the long corridor to his private room, the moment the door opened, he pulled her inside and shut it immediately.

“Please,” he whispered, pleading, “I feel awful. Don’t be so cold, okay?”
