Chapter 42

The palace was crawling with guards, but Mollie was clearly someone important. Everyone they passed snapped to attention and saluted her.
Since Mollie shared the same last name as Leilani, Layla figured Mollie was probably part of the royal family, maybe even one of Leilani’s most trusted confidants.
They walked through a stunning rose garden, fiery red roses, sweet pink ones, elegant whites, and rare blue roses that looked almost unreal, each bloom showing off its own charm.
Leilani stood among the flowers in a pristine white dress and a sun hat, snipping away at stray branches with her garden shears,
Mollie dipped her head respectfully. “Your Majesty, I’ve brought Layla,” she said in a clear, formal voice.
“Okay, you’re dismissed,” Leilani said calmly.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Mollie said.
Up close, Layla realized Leilani was breathtakingly beautiful. And those deep Klein blue eyes, now she knew where Atlas got his from.
“Your Majesty, what did you want to see me about?” Layla asked.
“Do you think these roses are beautiful?” Leilani asked.
Layla looked at the vibrant blooms and said, “Your Majesty, you know the scent of my pheromones.”
“Yes, I do. And I happen to love roses myself,” Leilani replied.
“Your Majesty, you didn’t call me here just to chat about roses, did you?” Layla said, deadpan.
Leilani’s lips curled into a slow smile. “Honestly, with the way you are, it’s no wonder Atlas was so into you during his rut.”
Layla stayed silent.
Leilani handed the shears to a servant. “Come walk with me in the garden,” she said to Layla.
“Sure,” Layla replied.
Leilani exuded elegance and grace, while Layla carried herself with a bold, striking charm; both of them were stunning in their own way.
Leilani said, “I know Atlas can be a handful, so I get why you want a divorce. But are you really okay with the Sullivan family just cutting you lose like that?”
She turned to Layla, her expression serious. “If you stay married to Atlas, you could make the Sullivan family regret ever giving you up.”
“The Sullivan family raised me all these years. They did more than enough for me. I’m grateful for everything they’ve done, and even now that I’m leaving, I don’t hold any grudges against them,” Layla replied.
“So you never really saw them as your real family, did you? That’s why you can just walk away without a second thought? Honestly, the Sullivan family is pretty clueless,” Leilani said.
Layla didn’t say a word.
Leilani took her time, strolling over to the bed of blue roses, her skirt brushing lightly against the ground.
“Layla, isn’t there anything you want to chase after?” Leilani asked.

Chapter 42
“Your Majesty, whatever I want, I’ll fight for it myself. I’m not the type to settle for less. So I will want to divorce w Highness. If that doesn’t work, I might just take it straight to the Interstellar Courthonne Layla said
Leilani spun around, and all that gentle warmth on her face disappeared in a heartbeat. Saddenly, a ridal wave of projebar force crashed down on Layla, so heavy that it felt like she could barely breathe.
Most folks tended to forget, after all those years in the palace, that Leilani was actually a top-tier shifter.
Layla could feel the crushing pressure, but she didn’t even blink, totally unfazed.
The servants passing by went white as sheets, bowing and shaking like leaves.
Leilani’s eyes glimmered with a hint of admiration, and just like that, the pressure melted away, gone as if it had never been there.
Leilani sighed, a little exasperated, “You really don’t budge, do you? Tough talk or sweet words, nothing gets through to you?
“Hey, I’m not immune to kindness,” Layla quipped.
Leilani paused for a moment, then laughed. “Layla, I really do like you. Now I see why Atlas can’t help but fall for you.”
Layla shrugged, a bit helpless. “Your Majesty, you’ve got it wrong. His Highness doesn’t like me. Once his rut ended, he couldn’t wait to put as much distance between us as possible.
“But he told me he wished he could stay in his rut forever. If he’s thinking that, it means he really does care about you,” Leilani replied.
Layla pressed her lips together.
Her relationship with Atlas was a tangled mess, too complicated to put into words, and honestly, it was only going to get more complicated from here on out.
The smartest move was for them to split up and get divorced. That was the only way to keep things from spiraling out of
control.
Leilani shook her head. “There’s no way to keep Atlas stuck in his rut forever.
“Now that it’s over. I honestly have no clue what he’s thinking. He’s not even on Alpha Prime right now. He’s out there with his squadron, chasing down void raiders again.”
Atlas had been in a foul mood lately, and whenever that happened, he’d just round up his crew and go after void raiders
“Oh, Layla said, and then fell silent.
Leilani picked a rose and said gently, “Alright, I won’t keep you. You just wrapped up training, bet you’re wiped out. Head back to campus and get some rest.”
