Chapter 43
Chapter 43
“Goodbye, Your Majesty,” Layla said.

“Let Mollie see you out. Oh, and you can add Mollie’s contact info. If you ever need help, just reach out to her, Leilani said.
Layla nodded. She saved Mollie’s number, but she was dead set on never asking for help.
‘Debts to the royals are never easy to pay back,’ Layla mused.
Back at school, Layla had no clue what Leilani was after when she called her in.
Leilani hadn’t said a word the whole time. She just flexed her psychic force to intimidate Layla a bit.
Layla glanced down at her optical computer. Atlas still hadn’t replied to her message.
She made her way to the repair bay to see what parts Alex’s mech suit still needed. Tomorrow, she’d hit up the undergstreet market with Annie and the crew to hunt for parts.
What Layla didn’t know was that, light-years away, Atlas was piloting his golden mech suit, going full beast mode and tearing through Ultra-S Tier starbeasts without mercy.
These beasts were so vicious that even regular shifters would tremble in fear just seeing them, but now they were getting their asses kicked by Atlas, scrambling away in panic.
Roger leaned over to Nicholas, who was also Atlas’s adjutant, and whispered, “Nicholas, what’s up with His Highness? Why does he always get so damn moody after his rut?”
They’d been going nonstop for a whole day and night. After nabbing their target void raider, Atlas insisted on hunting down Ultra-S Tier starbeasts.
Honestly, they could’ve taken care of those starbeasts any time.
Watching those starbeasts scrambling away, howling in panic, Roger couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for them.
Nicholas said, deadpan, “Why don’t you ask him yourself if you want to know?
“Are you kidding? I’d never dare.” Roger shot back.
Atlas had wiped out wave after wave of starbeasts. His mech suit was splattered with their blood. He handed it off to Nicholas, the mech engineer, and headed straight for his quarters.
After scrubbing the starbeast blood off his skin, Atlas frowned at his reflection in the mirror.
“Layla,” he muttered under his breath.
He closed his eyes, recalling every little detail he’d spent with Layla during his rut.
That woman had him completely under her spell.
If someone ever managed to turn Layla against him, she could hurt him during his rut, and he wouldn’t even put up a fight.
He had a weakness now, an Achilles’ heel.
Just thinking about it made Atlas even more agitated.
A few minutes later, Atlas stepped out of his quarters, his hair still dripping wet. He ordered his crew, “Set course for Alpha
Prime.”
Chapter 43
The massive gray starship slowly pulled away from Wastelands-9. The surviving starbeasts on Wastelands-9 were practically on the verge of tears from relief.
“The big bad’s finally outta here, the starbeasts thought, almost sobbing with joy.
Atlas was sitting on the leather couch, scowling at his military files, when his optical computer buzzed. It was a holo-call from his mother, Leilani.
He tapped to accept the call.
Leilani was sitting elegantly, sipping her coffee. When the call connected, she set her cup down and said gently, “Atlas, my birthday’s coming up. When are you coming home?”
“I’m on my way back. Should be at Alpha Prime by tomorrow evening,” Atlas replied.
“Good. Don’t forget to get me a birthday present,” Leilani said.
Atlas raised an eyebrow. “Mom, is there anything you could possibly be missing?”
Leilani gave him a helpless look. “It’s not about the stuff. I just want to know you care. Honestly, with that attitude of yours, no wonder Layla wants a divorce.”
Atlas’s mouth twitched, and the whole starship felt like the temperature had dropped ten degrees; his bad mood was practically freezing the place.
Roger, who was about to come in with a report, noped out of there the second he sensed the vibe.
‘Who in their right mind would risk getting their ass handed to them when His Highness is this pissed?’ Roger thought.
To be honest, these days catching Atlas in a good mood was rarer than a blue moon.
Leilani shook her head, a little exasperated. “Atlas, do you remember what I always told you growing up? When you hit a problem you just can’t solve, what did I always say?”
Atlas looked down, almost resigned. “Go with the flow.”
“You and Layla are connected, your gene match is off the charts, and you know you can’t get through your rut without her. So don’t push it. Sometimes you just have to let things happen on their own,” Leilani said.
Atlas stayed quiet for a while, then finally muttered, “Got it, Mom.”
“Oh, and by the way, Krish tracked down Tomas, who probably wanted the scoop on what went down during training. I bet he’s got his eye on Layla,” Leilani added.
Atlas’s head snapped up.
Layla was a total standout during training, and Krish was famous for/pulling talented people into his orbit.
The Crown Squad was a proof.
‘If Krish made a move and Layla ended up joining the Crown Squad?’ Leilani wondered.
Leilani knew her son was sharp. She let out a soft sigh. “Back then, I backed you and Layla because having a commoner wife made Atlas’s crew relax around you.
“But things are different now. Layla’s just too damn impressive. If Krish sets his sights on her and tries to pull her into his camp, you might end up having to let her go.”
Atlas narrowed his eyes and snapped his head up. “Krish isn’t going to marry some nobody.”

“Of course not. He’s only after the top noble girls. But his cousin could, or any of those hotshot guys in his crew, they could all go after Layla,” Leilani said.
A dangerous edge flashed in Atlas’s eyes, a surge of violent intent rising up inside him.
No matter what, Layla was his partner now. If Atlas or any of his crew tried to make a move on her, not a chance in hell.
Memories from his rut came flooding back.
He remembered how Tomas had clearly been interested in Layla back then.
Atlas spoke, each word cold and deliberate, “Layla is my wife. No one’s taking her from me.”
Leilani smiled warmly, “Since you’ve made up your mind, when you get back, make it up to her, don’t screw things up as you did before, alright?”
“Alright, I understand,” Atlas said.
As soon as the call with his mother ended, Atlas ordered the crew to accelerate the ship.
Layla had no idea Atlas was about to show up, and that he was coming straight for her. Right now, she was staring at Nolan, who looked like he was about to burst into tears from guilt.
Layla blinked in surprise. “Wait, you’re saying Xanthe took my package?”
Nolan looked absolutely miserable. “I’m so sorry, Layla. By the time I got back from Training Delta, she’d already grabbed the package and then took off with Mom for some interstellar vacation.
“I’ve been trying to get it back from her, but she just keeps insisting she never took it.”
Just thinking about that argument at home not long ago left Nolan feeling exhausted.
He’d never noticed before how his mother could get so mixed up about what’s right and wrong.
Layla frowned.
She’d sent anything that belonged to the Sullivan family all back, untouched.
But as for Layla’s own things, Xanthe could dream if she thought she could take them.
Just then, Nolan glanced at Layla. “Layla, are you free tonight? Dad wants you to come home for dinner. He’ll talk to Xanthe at the table, and I’m sure she’ll have to give your stuff back.”
“Why is Duke Karter suddenly asking me to come home for dinner?” Layla asked.
