Chapter 50
Layla said, “Shayla, I had to step out for a bit because something urgent came up.”
Shayla frowned again, pulled out a storage capsule, and handed it to Layla.
“This has all the basic mech suit parts you’ll need for your studies and experiments,” she said.
Layla blinked in surprise. “Shayla, I already have.”
“Just think of it as me lending it to you. When you’re able, you can return it to me. Layla, you’ve got real talent. Make sure you treasure it,” Shayla said seriously.
Layla saw the seriousness in Shayla’s eyes, and it suddenly clicked for her.
‘Looks like Shayla got the wrong idea,’ Layla thought.
After saying goodbye to Shayla, Layla went back to her dorm and logged into the mech suit forum as Hades.
To her surprise, she saw that Shayla had just posted a question about a mech suit issue that had been bugging her for a long time.
‘With mech suits, it’s always a trade-off; if you want agility for attack, you have to sacrifice defense, and vice versa. You just can’t have both at once,’ she wondered.
Shayla had been racking her brain over this problem for as long as she could remember.
Mech suits were classified into different tiers, A, B, S, and Ultra-S Tier, based on their materials and performance.
A and B Tier mech suits were pretty common.
As for S Tier mech suits, only top military brass and the elite families could get their hands on them.
Right now, the highest-tier and most powerful mech suit on Alpha Prime was Atlas’s exclusive Ares.
It was the only Ultra-S Tier mech suit on Alpha Prime.
Ares had once been piloted by the founding king of Alpha Prime.
After the king’s death, Ares went into hibernation, only to be accidentally reactivated when Atlas was just a child.
Atlas regularly sought out renowned mech suit masters to repair and upgrade Ares.
‘Come to think of it, Weston probably had something to do with that,’ Layla mused to herself.
She dropped Shayla a private message.
Hades: [If you’re interested, feel free to add me as a friend. We can chat more about mech suit maneuverability.]
Meanwhile, Shayla had just gotten home from work, still feeling a bit sorry for Layla, such a talented kid.
She let out a few soft sighs, finished off the last of her warm water, then fired up her optical computer and logged onto the mech suit forum.
When she saw the private message in her inbox, her eyes went wide in shock.
‘Did someone hack Hades’s account?’ she thought, her heart pounding.

Shayla was so excited that she could barely believe it; Hades himself was actually messaging her.
Layla ended up waiting around for ages, messing with the settings and trying to figure out how to change Zaa’s name.

But she couldn’t change it after all, and just as she was about to crash for the night, that’s when Shayla’s message finally came through.
Shayla: [Is this really Hades himself?]
Layla felt a bit weird; her teacher was so respectful to her now.
Still, she sent Shayla a screenshot of her Hades account’s login page to prove it was really her.
It took Shayla a few minutes to reply.
You could practically feel her excitement bursting through the screen.
Shayla: [Hi, Hades. I can’t believe it, I’m so thrilled you actually answered my question.]
Hades: [Add me as a friend and we can chat more privately.]
Shayla: [Absolutely.]
Before long, they’d added each other as friends on the forum, and Layla broke down the principle for Shayla.
Hades: [You use the pilot’s personal strengths to cover the mech suit’s flaws, and the mech suit’s abilities can make up for whatever the pilot’s missing.]
Shayla: [Seriously? That actually works?]
Hades: [Yep. And you can add some support materials to reinforce the joints on the mech suit.]
They kept talking for hours, right up until after three in the morning, and Shayla was still buzzing; she didn’t want to stop.
But Layla was dead tired, so she said they’d continue next time and signed off.
Since she had to meet up with Annie and the others to hit the Understreet in the morning, Layla hurried to catch a few hours of sleep.
As for Atlas, she just set him aside for now and didn’t bother with his business at all.
If someone didn’t really care about one, one didn’t waste their energy on them, either.
But Layla had no idea that Atlas barely got any sleep that night.
The golden boy who breezed through Imperial Academy without ever opening a textbook spent the whole night glued to the forums, hunting for dating advice.
But nothing he found could satisfy him.
‘Dinner at a restaurant?’ Atlas wondered. “The food at those places can’t even compare to what we cook at home. Ride the cosmic Ferris wheel and look at the Silver Sea?’
Atlas had seen it all, leading fleets out there; he knew the so-called Silver Sea was just endless chunks of rock, sometimes catching a bit of sunlight.
‘What kind of ridiculous ideas are these?’ he muttered. ‘Would girls even like this kind of thing?”
He pictured Layla, her stunning looks, and that calm, aloof vibe she always had.

He was convinced there was no way she’d be into any of that stuff
And the thing is, most of the dating tips out there are all about doing stuff together as a couple.
But for Atlas, that was easier said than done,
Whenever he was with Layla, he always seemed to mess things up somehow.
He genuinely wanted to get along with her, but it just never worked out the way he hoped,
So when he showed up at the military base the next morning, Atlas’s handsome face was clouded with a dangerous vibe, and the whole place felt tense, like everyone was walking on eggshells.
His icy face was even more intimidating than usual.
Roger and the others didn’t dare go anywhere near him. Atlas was scary enough on a good day,
And after a sleepless night, he was downright terrifying.
Anyone who tried to approach him was just asking to get roasted,
Atlas snapped, “Roger”
Roger flinched at being singled out.
With his colleagues shooting him sympathetic looks, he steeled himself and walked into Atlas’s office.
Roger asked in a small voice, “Your Highness, is there something you need?”
Atlas nodded. “So, where do you usually take your girlfriend on dates?”
As soon as Roger heard the question, he instantly perked up.
He even pulled up a virtual file and listed more than fifty different places.
“Your Highness, we’ve been to all of these. If you want, I can shoot the list over to you right now,” Roger said eagerly.
“Yes,” Atlas said coolly.
Atlas squinted at the list. These spots all felt the same as the ones he’d seen online, and he felt even more unimpressed.
He drummed his long fingers on the desk, frowning in frustration.
Roger could tell right away his boss wasn’t happy with the list. Thinking/fast, he added, “But if you’re both busy, maybe just start by giving her a gift.”
Atlas raised an eyebrow. “A gift?”
He’d never given a woman a gift in his life, well, except for his mother, Leilani.
But even then, it was always because Leilani told him straight up what she wanted. ‘So much for surprises, Atlas thought.
Roger, looking like the resident dating expert, said confidently, “Of course. Gifts are the way to go; girlfriends eat that stuff up. I’ve given Reyna tons of presents: shoes, clothes, bags, the newest optical computer, makeup, you name it.
“Your Highness, first figure out what she really likes or what she’s short on. If you get her something she’s into, she’ll totally fall for you even more.”
Atlas felt his heart melt a little.

‘If I could make Layla love me even more, that would be the best thing ever, Atlas thought. ‘So, what does Layla need most right now?’
She’d been kicked out of the Sullivan family and was basically on her own now. Studying in the Mech Engineering Division. probably means she needs a lot of starcoins just to get by.
Roger was practically bouncing with anticipation, and Atlas gave a curt nod. “Right now, what she needs most is starcoins.”
Roger was speechless for a moment, then awkwardly suggested, “Your Highness, maybe you could pick something else instead?”
‘Giving her starcoins straight up? Man, that’s pretty rude, Roger thought to himself.
