Chapter 49
Chapter 49
“Bullshit, Atlas snapped.
Atlas snapped, his anger flaring as he slammed the forum shut.
He didn’t want to divorce Layla.
I need to figure something out,’ he thought, his mind racing.
Meanwhile, in the middle of the night on Alpha Prime, Roger was cuddling with his girlfriend when his optical computer suddenly started beeping like crazy.
“Who’s messing with me at this hour? If I find out who you are, I swear I’ll-” he grumbled, half-asleep and annoyed.
“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Atlas’s icy voice cut through the darkness, sending a chill down Roger’s spine.
Roger instantly snapped awake.
And just as quickly, he turned into a total wimp.
He quickly pushed his girlfriend aside, jumped out of bed barefoot, and hurried into the living room, clutching his pants. “Your Highness, is this an emergency?” he asked.
“I want to ask you something,” Atlas said, his tone icy.
“Yes, Your Highness, I’m listening,” Roger replied, trying his best to sound calm.
“How do you usually get along with your girlfriend?” Atlas asked.
Roger froze for a few seconds, totally thrown off by Atlas’s serious tone.
He was still trying to wrap his head around it when Atlas coughed impatiently, jerking him awake.
“Well, Reyna works at the hospital, and I’m usually out on missions. Most of the time, we just text or call each other on our optical computers.
“When I get some time off, we go out, get something to eat, catch a movie, and, uh, you know, crash together,” Roger rambled.
Atlas frowned. Now that he thought about it, he and Layla hadn’t done any of those things.
They’d just skipped straight to the last part.
Is dating really the key to actually getting along with her?’ Atlas wondered.
Atlas’s silence stretched on, making Roger squirm with anxiety. He hurried to reassure him. “Your Highness, I swear, I’ve never let my personal stuff get in the way of work.
“Every mission you give me, I always see it through, no exceptions.”
“Okay, go get some sleep,” Atlas replied coolly.
After hanging up, Atlas reopened the StarNet Forum and started looking up stuff about dating.
Roger, still in a daze, wandered back into the bedroom. Reyna looked at him curiously and asked, “Roger, what’s going on?”
“You won’t believe this. His Highness just asked me how I get along with you. Wait, maybe he has no clue how to handle his

Reyna, ever the gentle rabbit shifter, replied, “You’d better just act like you know nothing. Otherwise, Atlas might make you disappear.”
Roger shivered, thinking about how terrifying Atlas could be, and nodded like crazy.
“Come on, let’s just go back to sleep and pretend none of this ever happened.

As it got later, the number of aero-vehicles in the air started to dwindle.
Layla sat quietly in the aero-vehicle on her way to school, not saying a word.
But Zee was a total chatterbox, and right now, they were super curious about Zaa.
“Ma’am, we’ve got tons of aero-vehicles at the estate. If you ever need one, just use it whenever you want. Should I give Zaa the access?” Zee chattered, sounding super enthusiastic.
“No need,” Layla replied coolly.
Layla didn’t blame Zee for spilling the beans about her master.
It was her own fault for being careless. There was no point in getting mad at an Al
What she really wanted was to put some distance between herself and Atlas.
When Angelina showed up, Atlas didn’t introduce her at all.
And tomorrow was Leilani’s birthday, but Atlas hadn’t mentioned inviting her to join.
From beginning to end, he never took her seriously.
With that realization, Layla felt her mind clear up, and she found herself speaking more rationally.
Zee was feeling a little down and, trying to be sneaky, messaged Zaa, “So, uh, want to add me as a friend?”
Zaa shot back, “Hard pass. You’re ugly.”
Zee was upset.

When Layla got back to school, the whole place was dead quiet, and the night breeze was chilly.
Most of the students and teachers were already asleep at this hour, but Layla unexpectedly bumped into her teacher, Shayla.
Shayla really thought highly of Layla as a student.
Layla was not only smart and strong, but also talented, and absolutely passionate about mech suits.
But Shayla hadn’t thought Layla would be flying back in an aero-vehicle at this hour.
Shayla frowned. “Layla, what are you doing out so late?”
