Layla had no idea how to handle this situation.

She wanted to check on Angelina, but Atlas was clinging to her like a human koala.

“Atlas, let go for a second. I need to see what’s wrong with Ms. Logan,” Layla said.

“Don’t look at her. Look at me,” Atlas whined.

‘That outrageous possessiveness, Layla thought.

Layla was at a loss. Angelina was clearly hurt, and she couldn’t just leave her there.

She’d heard that Angelina’s mother, Hanna, was on very good terms with Leilani.

In the end, Layla said, “Zee, have the aero-vehicle take Ms. Logan to the hospital.”

“No, I don’t want to go to the hospital. Take me home.” Angelina protested. Her fear was overriding everything else.

She knew she looked a mess, but she wasn’t seriously hurt. For the sake of her pride, she had to go home, not to the hospital.

Layla turned to Zee and asked him to arrange a ride home for Angelina.

Once Angelina was gone, Layla just gave Atlas a helpless look.

Atlas curled up into a pitiful little ball, whining, “Star, that mean lady bullied me. She even tried to touch me.”

Layla just stared, speechless.

‘I’m here to get a divorce, not to play bodyguard for this fox, she thought.

On top of that, Layla remembered how Atlas used to treat Angelina with such kindness, even speaking to her gently.

“Weren’t you pretty close with her?” Layla asked.

“No. I’m only close to you, Star. No one else matters.” Atlas insisted.

Layla stared at Atlas, seeing how dead serious he was, and just felt utterly helpless.

‘Forget it,’ she thought.

There was just no reasoning with him when he was in a rut, and honestly, Layla couldn’t resist him at all when he was like

this.

So even though she’d come here to get a divorce, before she knew it, she was already inside Atlas’s bedroom.

“That’s your bedroom,” Layla pointed out.

“Everything about me belongs to you, Star. Everything I own is yours, too.” Atlas insisted.

Atlas was hugging Layla when a thought suddenly struck him. He immediately let go, grabbed her hand, and said, “Star, come on. Let me show you my vault.

“I’ve got tons and tons of awesome stuff in there, and it’s all yours.”

Layla looked at him and asked, “Can I say no?”

Sure enough, the fox-eared boy’s lips quivered as soon as she said that.

Those starry ocean eyes of his started to well up with tears.

Layla couldn’t help but feel helpless.

‘Whatever, it’s not like I have a choice. I did try to refuse, after all, she thought. ‘Maybe when Atlas’s rut finally ends he’ll remember that I did try to refuse.

‘And if he ends up mad about it later, well, that’s his own problem.

“Alright,” Layla said.

Atlas’s face lit up the instant Layla agreed. His tears disappeared in a heartbeat, and he grabbed her hand, his excitement almost palpable.

He was just like a dragon showing off his treasure to his favorite person, eagerly leading Layla to his vault.

Layla still remembered that the last time she was here, Atlas had Zee unlock a bunch of permissions for her, but he specifically forbade her from going anywhere near the basement.

But now, he was eagerly leading her straight to the basement.

Layla had mixed feelings about it. Atlas must’ve noticed she was spacing out, because he asked, “Star, what made you come over all of a sudden? I was actually planning to go find you.”

“Didn’t you ask me to come here to talk about the divorce?” Layla replied.

Atlas stopped in his tracks, frowning. “No way. Why would I ever want a divorce with you, Star?”

Layla sighed, ‘Yeah, you wouldn’t know, but once your rut’s over, you’ll be desperate to divorce me, she thought.

But she kept that to herself. There was no point in saying it now.

Atlas’s fluffy dog ears flattened against his head, and his big, furry tail was swishing around nervously, betraying his uncertainty.

His beautiful eyes were all wet and glistening.

“Star,” Atlas whimpered.

Layla was at a loss for words. She’d given up trying to reason with Atlas when he was in a rut.

The basement was hidden away. Layla followed Atlas into the elevator, and he started typing a string of characters on the virtual screen next to him.

Halfway through, he turned to her with a serious look and said, “Stay, you need a password to get in here. Let me tell you what it is, so you can come here anytime you like.”

‘I don’t want to hear it. And I don’t even want to come here, Layla thought.

She was just about to refuse, but when she caught the look in his eyes, especially that pitiful, almost teary face, like he’d cry on the spot if she said no, she just couldn’t bring herself to do it.

Layla took a deep breath, feeling utterly exhausted.

“Alright, go ahead,” she said.

Atlas immediately rattled off a string of numbers and characters, and under his pleading look, Layla had no choice but to

repeat them.

The elevator started its descent, and Layla did a quick mental calculation, realizing that they were way undergstreet now.

But the place was specially designed, with plenty of oxygen in the air, so she didn’t feel any discomfort at all.

Atlas started showing off to Layla, beaming with pride. “Star, this is my treasure vault. Over the years, I’ve picked up all kinds of cool stuff from other planets.

“Actually, there was a lot more, but my mom took a bunch. She wanted even more, but I told her no way, I had to save some for my future wife.”

Layla couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head, thinking of Leilani’s gorgeous face. She teased, “Didn’t Her Majesty get mad and say you’d forget your mom once you got a wife?”

“How’d you know she actually said that?” Atlas blinked, looking genuinely surprised.

“Come on, it’s not exactly rocket science,” Layla shot back.

“But then my mom went, ‘Who knows if you’ll ever get married?’ Well, guess what, I did,” Atlas boasted.

Watching Atlas strut around all proud, his nine fluffy tails waving everywhere, Layla just wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.

Besides all the rooms packed with rare treasures, Layla also noticed a whole starbeast zone.

‘Damn, Atlas actually has a whole menagerie of bizarre starbeasts living right in his house, she thought.

“The place used to be way too quiet, so whenever I came across some weird-looking starbeasts, I’d just bring them home. With them here, it feels a lot less lonely,” Atlas said.

Hearing that, Layla suddenly felt a sharp ache in her heart. She’d always been an outsider in the Sullivan family, never really fitting in, and Atlas, even as a prince, his life was anything but easy.

His father didn’t care about him, his big brother was always lurking like a predator, and his mom? Layla could tell Leilani loved her son, but she always seemed so let down by her marriage.

‘Maybe that’s why her feelings about Atlas and his royal marriage are so complicated,’ Layla thought.

“Star, these little guys might look adorable, but some of them are actually pretty dangerous. If you ever want to check them out, make sure I’m with you, okay? Don’t come down here alone,” Atlas warned.

Layla glanced at these so-called cuties, some with five legs, some with three wings, some with green faces and fangs, and said seriously, “Trust me. I’m not about to mess with those things.”

“Honestly, you only need me, Star,” Atlas grinned.

His big, fluffy tail wrapped around Layla’s waist like it was second nature.
