Chapter 94

“Let me take care of everything here. Go ahead and get some sleep,” November said gently.

He leaned down and kissed her forehead. His gentle touch made Layla feel even sleepier, and she soon fell fast asleep.

Once he was sure she was asleep, November lay down beside her for a while.

But the tenderness in his gaze slowly faded away.

In the end, his eyes returned to their usual cold and detached calm.

If Layla had been awake, she would have realized that the November beside her today wasn’t quite the same as the usual one.

Atlas reached out and softly brushed Layla’s bangs away from her forehead. His gaze was cool and collected, but his movements were gentle.

He moved with extra care, afraid of disturbing her sleep.

He’d just been copying the way he had acted during his rut, relying on old memories.

Just as he expected, Layla didn’t shy away from him. In fact, she looked so comfortable and trusting.

Zee’s smug voice buzzed in Atlas’s earpiece. “Atlas, didn’t I tell you this would work? Look how sweet your wife is with you. You can hold her all night, and she won’t even stir.”

“Shut up!” Atlas snapped.

Even though Layla couldn’t hear Zee, Atlas still thought Zee was being a bit noisy.

Right at that moment, someone knocked on Layla’s door. Even in her sleep, her brows drew together in a faint frown.

Atlas’s expression darkened with irritation, mirroring hers.

He got up from the bed, strode to the door, and flung it wide open.

Annie, who had just been about to knock on the door to chat with her friend about the thrilling day they’d had, froze on the

spot.

“P-P-Prince Atlas? I’m so sorry, Your Highness. I-I must have knocked on the wrong door,” Annie stammered, snapping to attention and saluting.

She spun around and hurried back to her own room, her heart pounding in her chest as she closed the door behind her.

‘Oh my god. Prince Atlas is even scarier up close, Annie thought, still shaken.

But then Annie frowned, feeling suspicious. She wondered, ‘Wait. Am I remembering wrong? Wasn’t that Layla’s room

earlier?

‘Is there something wrong with my memory?’

“I messaged Layla, but she hasn’t replied. Maybe she’s just too tired and fell asleep,” Annie muttered.

She mulled it over for a while and figured that had to be it. After all, if Layla hadn’t saved everyone all by herself, the whole

crew would’ve been doomed.

Besides, those passengers who didn’t know what was good for them were really starting to get on her nerves.

Annie glanced at her comms, which had finally come back online. She’d already muted her family’s messages, and she didn’t want to bother Layla, who deserved a good rest.

After thinking for a moment, Annie decided to message Randall instead.

Annie: [Randall, bet you’ll never guess where I am right now. I’m actually on Prince Atlas’s starship.

[If you don’t believe me, I’ll send you my location.]

Randall had just finished his shift and was switching with his teammates when he passed by a room.

His optical computer chimed a few times, and the last message was a location share. [The sender is just 3 feet away from you.]

Randall replied with ellipses to mean he was wordless.

Annie replied the same.

Her cat ears perked right up. She yanked open her door and saw Randall standing right there in the hallway, dressed in his sharp military uniform and looking completely gobsmacked.

Her eyes lit up with excitement as she practically sprinted over and wrapped Randall up in a big hug.

“Let go of me,” Randall grumbled.

“No way,” Annie refused, squeezing him even tighter.

“How did you

end

up here?” Randall was still dumbfounded.

“It’s a long story. Come in, and I’ll spill everything,” Annie said, pulling him into her room.

Randall hesitated for a few seconds. He knew Annie. If he disagreed, she’d just keep clinging to him like a koala.

If any of his teammates, or even his superior, saw this… Randall looked seriously annoyed and nodded. “Let go of me. Let’s

talk inside.”

“Alright,” Evan replied.

As soon as they stepped inside, Randall realized Annie was staying in one of the starship’s high-ranking officers’ quarters. Only senior crew members got rooms like these.

Even though he was just an intern commander, he still wasn’t qualified to stay in quarters like these.

“Who put you up in a place like this?” Randall asked.

Annie replied, “Oh, probably Prince Atlas. I tagged along with Layla to the orphanage, and apparently, she knows Prince Atlas.

“You know how amazing Layla and her husband, November, are. Prince Atlas thinks really highly of them.”

As Annie spoke, Randall frowned a little, feeling like something didn’t add up.

Prince Atlas might admire talent, but he was always cold and aloof with people.

Still, with Layla and Annie showing up here, it was obvious that Prince Atlas had given the green light.

Annie couldn’t stop talking, going on and on to Randall about everything that had happened today–the edge-of-your-seat action, the wild twists, all of it.

Chapter 94

Nothing in her life had ever come close to this level of excitement.

Randall had joined Prince Atlas’s forces in the fight against the rebels, but they had no clue Annie was on board this starship.

too.

Just looking at how lively she was, Randall knew she hadn’t suffered a scratch.

Randall suddenly asked, “Seriously, why would you leave Alpha Prime for the holidays and run off to Wastelands-9 Orphan Core with Layla?”

Annie froze for a second, looking a little conflicted-something that rarely happened to her.

Randall’s voice was cold. “If you don’t want to talk about it, fine. I’m leaving.”

“Wait. Fine. I’ll tell you,” Annie said, making up her mind. She laid it all out for Randall, telling him everything that had happened these past few days.

She explained, “It took everything I had to get out. There was no way I could stay on Alpha Prime anymore. Layla was leaving for Wastelands-9 Orphan Core to spend the holiday, so I just went with her.”

Randall fell silent. He watched Annie biting her bottom lip, all worked up-angry and hurt-and suddenly, something clicked in his mind.

“Why didn’t you tell me any of this?” Randall asked.

Annie said, “I didn’t want to cause you trouble. You know how those people are. They only care about the family’s interests. above everything else.

“If I dragged you into this, they’d just come after you, too. And I really don’t want them messing with Mrs. Norris’s peaceful

life.”

At her words, Randall’s usually icy eyes softened for a moment, a rare tenderness flickering through.

‘What a dumb little kitten,’ he thought.

Without thinking, he reached out and brushed away the tear at the corner of Annie’s eye. The instant he realized what he’d done, he was completely frozen.

But Annie was even more shocked than he was. Her eyes went comically wide, and she gaped at him in disbelief.

Randall shot to his feet. “You’ve been through a lot today. Try to get some sleep, okay? If anything comes up… just message

me.”

With that, he rushed out, not daring to look back, but his flustered exit said it all.

After a few seconds of silence, Annie couldn’t hold it in anymore and squealed with excitement.

Annie thought,’ He actually responded to me.

‘Randall doesn’t hate me anymore,

‘I’m so happy, so pumped. If only I could tell Layla about it!

Good thing Annie didn’t go bug Layla again because Atlas had already doubled back to Layla’s room and locked the door, switching the smart system to do-not-disturb mode.

Then he headed back to his private quarters, took a quick shower, changed into something soft and comfortable, and made his way back to Layla’s room.

Atlas gave a small simile, took a deep breath, and let his fox ears and all nine fluffy tails appear. Only then did he curl up beside Layla again.

His nine fluffy tails cautiously stretched out toward her, each one moving with gentle care.

Some wrapped softly around her waist, while others coiled around her legs…

One even carefully slipped into Layla’s hand.

Still fast asleep, Layla suddenly shifted and, without thinking, clutched the fluffy tail in her hand. The moment she squeezed it, Atlas instantly tensed up, his whole body going stiff.
