Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 164

Chapter 164

Lillian’s POV

As soon as we returned to the palace, Grayson went to see his father, the peace agreement in hand. I waited in the hallway, worried that my presence would make things more difficult. The Queen, at least, did not seem to overly appreciate my presence. So long as she was in the room, I thought it best to be outside of it.

Grayson hadn’t been in the kind of mood where he was going to take time to argue. So, with a frown, he left me in the hallway and hurried into the room to speak with his father.

Even from outside the door, I could hear the King’s sharp reply.

“You what?!”

I winced at the volume and the tone.

“I brought peace to the kingdom,” came Grayson’s proud reply.

“You will take responsibility for this,” the King demanded. “To the Elders. To the court. You will be the one to tell them what you have done, and you will face their wrath alone. You are my heir, son, but I cannot protect you from these consequences when you act so recklessly.”

“Peace isn’t reckless,” Grayson said. “What the Elders were trying to do was. And I will stand before them and the court and tell everyone that. I’m not afraid.”

“I will declare an emergency meeting then,” the King said. “Be ready.”

“Yes, father.”

Grayson returned to the hallway and at once, I folded into his arms. He was strong, a rock, appearing as calm as ever, but with my face to his chest, my ear over his heart, I could hear how fast his heartbeat raced.

He tugged me into an alcove, where we wordlessly held each other until Prime Beta found us.

“It’s time,” he said.

Grayson nodded and, stepping back from me, held out his hand for me to take. When I did, we continued to the throne room together.

The members of the court were there, talking amongst themselves about what this emergency meeting could be about, what could be so important as to call everyone together so urgently.

The King and Queen were on their thrones, and the Elders were there, speaking with them.

As Grayson entered, me at his side, a hush fell over the room. We walked through the crowd to the front, where, at the base of the stairs, Grayson squeezed my hand and then let me go.

From his inside jacket pocket, he withdrew a copy of the peace agreement and without any fanfare or spectacle, read the agreement in its entirety. The details included removing soldiers from the front to protect the border but not cross it. The border towns would return to their typical, peaceful arrangement. In response, the Rogues would only cross the border for peaceful reasons, with the understanding if they caused trouble, they would face the law and the agreement would be in danger.

The wording specifically retracted everything that the Elders had put in place to eliminate the Rogues, pulling back on their murderous policies.

As he continued speaking, with each word, they glowered.

The King stayed quiet, observing all. The Queen openly frowned at me.

Me court members were a mix of surprise and growing outrage.

After reading the agreement in full, Grayson lowered it and stood tall. “I will answer any questions until you are all convinced that this was the right path forward for our Kingdom.”
