Chapter 166

Lilian’s POV

I dressed for the day, wearing a sundress with a flowing skirt and shorts underneath. I pulled my hair up in a ponytail, expecting some heat as I would be outside for the day. In the same measure, I pulled on some comfortable shoes, knowing I’d be walking.

Then, joined by a mandatory lone guard who was also my driver, we went to the field that was holding the festival, Driving closer, the spectacle came into view.

Unlike the stuffy banquets in the ball room of the palace, this was something like a carnival or fair, complete with temporary rides and booths for food and games. It was already crowded, with even more people walking there. few guards and police had taken position to help with traffic. From what I could see, everyone was laughing and cheering.

The event, at least from the outskirts, seemed to be a success.

My guard parked the car and then we walked toward the event more or less together, with him a few steps behind

Though Grayson had invited everyone from the court, I hadn’t expected to actually see any of them here. To my surprise, as we walked into the main pathway through the area, I spotted a few members of court with their families, all of them seemingly having a good time.

Of course, I didn’t see any of the Royal Family or the Elders.

Josie had told me she was going to avoid it for fear of upsetting her father. Clara was curious but didn’t want to brave the heat. I couldn’t blame them, really. An event like this was unprecedented, though I was certain they would feel like they missed out afterwards.

The absence of the Elder Council was no surprise given how adamantly they had been against Grayson’s new plan, though I had thought one of them might be curious enough to attend. More likely, they had spies here keeping a watchful eye.

In crowd, I lost sight of my guard, but I was confident he was still around somewhere. And with so many other court members and witnesses here, I didn’t feel in any danger. Mostly, I was eager to try the food and have some fun.

I tried the deep fried ice cream. Strangely delicious, but also dangerous for the waistline. I wouldn’t allow myself a second serving no matter how sweet it was.

Then, full, I went to one of the games. The objective was to knock down a tower of empty milk bottles with a small ball. If done on the first throw, I could win a massive plush tiger.

I didn’t know how well my aim would be at throwing, but I had been getting a lot of training in, which had added to my overall muscle mass. Maybe aim wouldn’t be as important as strength. That lion was really cute with a button nose and rosy cheeks.

I paid the attendant a coin for a try, and he gave me a baseball. I lined up and threw.

I hit the bottles hard, but only three of the five fell. Perhaps aiming was important after all.

Another coin, another try. This time, I had this game sorted out. I took aim and threw as hard as I could.

All five bottles clattered down, and the attendant handed me my lion. It was large, two and a half feel long, not counting the tail, and squishy, with a fluffy mane. It also smelled vaguely of deep friend ice cream, which only

made me like it more.

The only problem was… As I looked around, I didn’t have anyone to share this victory with. Even the attendant had already moved on to serve someone else.

I wished Grayson was here. He would have been impressed, wouldn’t he? I could tell him about it afterwards, but that wouldn’t be the same as if he was here.

I hoped he would hurry and join me. I still wasn’t sure how he would find me. I seemed to have totally lost my guard without even meaning to.

Grayson wouldn’t spend more time than he had to with Odette, would he? She would tell him the important thing, and he would find his way here. I had even given my blessing for this. Yet, knowing he was there with her, that they were together, I still felt uncomfortable.

To distract myself, I turned my attention to the massive Ferris wheel in the center of the event. From there, would be able to see everything in all directions. I was certain the view would be fantastic. Plus, maybe I could even see Grayson approaching. Wouldn’t it be fun if I found him instead of his finding me?
