Lillian’s POV

“We didn’t have a formal wedding before,” Grayson continued. “I want to change that.” He tilted his head slightly, searching my face. “Would you be open to that?”

“You don’t have to ask,” I said.

“Maybe I just like hearing you say so.

I couldn’t deny him that indulgence. I liked hearing him say he loved me, too. “I want to marry you,” I said. “I want to be your wife for the world to see. I love you, and I don’t care who else knows it.”

He hummed, satisfied, and kissed me. Unlike the softer kisses of before, this time he coaxed my lips open with his own, and with the gentle swipe of his tongue. As our tongues tangled, one of his hands crept up from my side to my chest, falling upon my breast.

I broke the kiss at once and pushed his hand away. A flash of hot lust filled me, but this was not the time and place for this!

“Not here,” I said.

He groaned. “All the more reason for me to leave.”

I gave him a flat, disapproving look. “Promise me you will stay here until the doctors clear you to leave.”

He grumbled more, and dropped his face to my shoulder. “Fine.”

“We can hold each other, though?” I offered.

“Good,” he said, wrapping his arms around me again. With his face on the pillow, he looked over at me. “You are stubborn.”

“I’m just not taking any chances with your health. I want my husband around for as long as I am physically able to have him.”

Grayson looked at me for a moment more, then leaned in to kiss me again.

“Grayson,” I said, lightly chiding.

“You can’t say something like that and not expect me to kiss you,” he countered. With another grumble, he added, “I promise it will just be kissing. I won’t compromise you here.”

With that promise, I turned into him. “Okay. Just kissing.”

“Just kissing,” he said, and then proceeded to kiss the very life out of me.

Odette’s POV

Something was definitely going on, and not just with my brother. People who usually sucked up to me, knowing I was likely going to end up princess once Grayson came to his senses and kicked Lillian out, were now avoiding me like I had contracted the plague.

Even when I approached them, they made excuses and saw themselves out.

If someone didn’t tell me the truth of what was going on soon, I was going to lose my mind.

Finally, from around the corner, I heard a group talking. “Prince Grayson would have been dead without Lillian’s intervention. They say she used knowledge of plants to stop the silver poisoning.”

“No wonder he wants to have a public wedding. She saved his life, he’s practically indebted now.”

“I just feel bad for Odette. She saved him too when they were kids, but that’s old news compared to this.”

“She led him out of the woods. That’s nothing compared to treating a silver wound.”

A storm of anger churned inside of me, lightning striking at my senses.

Lillian saved Grayson? Lillian was the only reason Grayson was in danger in the first place! He wouldn’t have needed saving if he just left her to her fate.

Gods, Calvin must have blown it. He was probably dead now, which made things more difficult. He was supposed to take Lillian away or kill her off at last. Instead, he made her into some kind of hero.
