Chapter 210
Grayson’s POV
The morning of the wedding, I woke up feeling whole. With Lily in my arms, everything felt right. Soon, our marriage would be formally seen and accepted, and the Lycan Kingdom, including Odette, would back off of this alliance.
Yet, as much as I wanted this moment to linger, I was uncertain. While Lily was here in my arms, she was safe but if I wanted her to be safe during the service today too, then I had to get up and take care of things.
As I started to pull away from her, she groaned in her sleep and reached out for me. It broke my heart to pull away.
“Grayson…” she mumbled, her voice heavy, her eyes open only a crack.
“Sleep,” I told her. “I have to go get things ready for today.”
“Stay…” she whispered, but soon drifted off to sleep again. I positioned her so that she held my pillow instead of my person and then stood up out of bed. I watched her longingly for a long moment, wanting nothing more than to crawl back into bed with her. But, giving that up, I turned and went into the bathroom.
I quickly showered and changed. I wasn’t in my clothes for the ceremony yet, that would come later. For now, I wore my usually outfit – dark pants and a white button up shirt with a collar, and headed out of the room, making certain to lock it behind me.
Over the past few days, I had replaced some of the guard with those I trusted from my personal army, but there were still too few in the palace on a whole. The regular guards still outnumbered them four to one, and I wasn’t willing to take those odds against my wife. Especially not when a locked door would help.
Satisfied with her safety for now, I headed downstairs and to my office. Prime Beta was already there.
“Any sign of Lone Archer?” I asked, as I did every day since his disappearance.
“No,” Prime Beta said. “Some of the servants said he was seen leaving the palace, but his direction remains unknown. I suspect he returned to the rogues for now. Should we consider him an enemy?”
“No,” I said. “He’s evading our questions, but he must have his own reasons. Lillian said she’s noticed he’s always been elusive around Reginald. There could be a connection there, but we don’t know what. I’m not sure it’s anything dangerous to us at this time. More likely, Lone Archer doesn’t want to reveal more of his secrets.”
Lone Archer definitely knew more than he had shared with me or with Lillian. This was frustrating, but she continued to trust him, believing he meant them no physical harm. As I loved her, I trusted her and her judgement.
“Any other news?” I asked.
“Nothing,” Prime Beta said. “It’s quiet.”
“It’s been quiet,” I said.
“That’s good, isn’t it?”
Normally, it would be, but with how on edge I felt, I wasn’t sure. It felt like I was waiting on pins and needles for something to happen, but I had no idea what it would be or when it would happen. It was incredibly nerve- wracking.
I sat down at my desk and started peering through the day’s reports. Security for the wedding was of the utmost importance to me.

I had only read halfway through when there was a timid knock on the door. “Yes?”
Aservant showed her face. “Forgive me, Prince Grayson, but there is an urgent message from the hospital. It appears as if Odette has been poisoned.”
“Poisoned,” I said, immediately skeptical.
“Yes, Sir.”
I traded looks with Prime Beta. “Do you think this is legitimate?”
Odette was his sister. If Prime Beta thought this was a true concern, I would follow his lead. Instead, he seemed unsure.
“I don’t know,” he said.
“Do you think there’s some chance she is simply trying to disrupt the wedding?” I asked.
Prime Beta lowered his head. “I fear the odds of that are not zero,” he said.
That was enough for me.
“They are expecting you, Prince Grayson,” the servant said.
“I’m not going there,” I said. “Relay my message to the doctors. Do their very best for Odette. That’s all.”
